Ready At Dawn to reveal new original action game 'soon,' done with PSP
31
Ready at Dawn recently explained in an interview with Eurogamer that it's ready to make the leap away from the PSP platform that's treated it so, so well over the years. The developer is preparing to announce a new "story driven" action-adventure game based on original IP -- but Ready at Dawn co-founder Ru Weerasuriya confirmed that God of War: Ghost of Sparta is "our last PSP game."
So, where is the new project going to end up? Weerasuriya explained that it's currently being developed using the studio's self-titled Ready at Dawn engine, and "right now our engine runs on pretty much anything that's available out there." So, then, 360, PS3, PS2, Wii, Gamecube, Xbox, DS, PC, Mac, iPhone, Blackberry, Android, Windows Phone 7, Game Boy Advance, car radios, iPod Nanos and Pokéwalkers -- but totally, definitely not the PSP.

Wasn't Chains of Olympus their "last" PSP game too?

@FriedConsole They in fact packed up their dev kits and sent them home. Luckily they had a change of heart and decided to send off the PSP in the same spectacular manner that Santa Monica sent off the PS2 with God of War II.
Now you'll realize that the PS2 is still for sale over 3 years later and the PSP likely isn't going anywhere for while either, but I think Ghost of Sparta represents the pinnacle of the system. Bring on the next.
I can't wait to see what this very talented studio has brewing.

Based on this interview though it doesn't seem like they'd make another game on the Wii so that's out of the list (even though their last game for it was just a port).

Unless of course lots of money was just handed to them.
Still it seems like they'd keep their current engine so handhelds seem likely PSP2 and 3DS I guess and maybe the idevices.

I haven't got the chance to play a God of War on PSP. Are they representative of the console games?

Well we have known for some time that the dev kits for the PSP2 are out in the wild so yes PSP2 it is.

Actually, while I know of Classic Game Room and have seen some of it (you're talking about the Inecom guy on YouTube, right?), I have definitely not seen enough to have known that there was some strong association between it and the Vectrex. When I wrote "Vectrex" above, it was actually not my first idea for what to write; I was thinking "Magnavox Odyssey 2" or "Bally Astrocade," but the Vectrex, with its vector monitor, seemed more "out there" as far as porting a game goes.

They should collaborate with Kojima and make Metal Gear Solid: Pokéwalker.
This would be the sickest edition to a languishing platform.

But how would you fit any of the larger Pokemon into The Orange Pokebox?
Also, it better include realistic cigarette smoking Pokemon action!

I hope they stay away from the "dark, gritty" setting that way too many games take place in nowadays. It's getting old.

Yeah....it's their last game alright. Hope no one's placed any bets that that's set in stone. I imagine it was pretty embarrassing for the to buy more PSP SDKs from Sony....or maybe the SDKs were part of the undoubtedly large compensatory package SCEA tossed their way to get them to develop GoS.
