This is great for people like me who are nerds but refuse to socialize with other nerds at nerd events like midnight launches.

At least my Celestial Steed doesn't judge me... ;(

No, but those of us who see you riding that rape machine do. Thanks for telling Blizzard that free updates are optional!

I'm fighting not to go back to wow...

It's been more than 1 year and a Half... I'm NOT going back!

All Blizzard would have to do to get stray sheep like you back is offer a little free game time to try the new game. Could you imagine how many predisposed addicts would keep paying Blizzard if it would have a free period of game play every time a new expansion came out?

Fight it, I know we can get through it together. Remember how you turned away from everyone and let the demon inside take over. You can't let it take over again Ashkental. You just can't! For the sake of your relationships please!

Nah... When you play WoW a lot some people get an epiphany and realize that the game is just a waste of time AND money...

I tried to go back twice now and I couldn't stand playing it for more than 4 days...

Even if blizzard offered me a free game to play wow i wouldn't be nearly as addicted as I once were, i'd just play it for a couple of hours.. Every one of my friends there is gone, there's no reason to play it anymore.

Oh, and BTW, I have 10 days free trial but i'm not using it... no reason to.. Starcraft 2 is much better anyways.

@Ashkental I don't understand...are other games all wastes of time and money as well?

To me, a video game is something I play for entertainment.

With WoW, ever since vanilla, I buy an expansion, play it for a few months, then quit. It's highly entertaining and imo just like any other game I play.

What's up with people going after blizzard for some sort of dark agenda?

@Ashkental Your opinion is borderline WoW trolling if not JUST that...

Look to @Aekero's response to your post which seems more sensible and logical.

It was all good until you said StarCraft2 is better than WoW. You just compared an RTS to an MMOrpg the same way Madden 11 is wayy better Fable 3. Move along.

Everyday whether by blog or Official WoW forums 100's feel the need to express their Quitting of WoW like its a major feat. Unless you were the leader of a successful/ happy Guild, no one cares.

I never quite understood why they bothered burning MMOs onto a little disc and putting them in a little cardboard box in the first place. I mean, unlike other genres, you KNOW that 100% of your target audience has broadband. Seems like a waste of a disc and a cardboard box to me.

Bandwidth limits. Download Speed. Time.

Top three things that come to mind.

(Not everyone has the time, bandwidth,, or the speed to download over 14 gigs - I know, at my full speeds, that would take something like 8 hours and use up 1/3 of my monthly bandwidth limit... thats insane when you spend $75+ on a game yet you have to wait over 8 hours to play the damn thing.)

Most countries outside the US have caps. Australia is pretty bad. I have seen some people talking saying they have an 8GB monthly cap.

In fact, every company in the US has caps, they just don't tell you about them. Comcast's is 250GB. But they only finally admitted it after getting much shit about advertising "unlimited", then sending out notices to people once they got over it.

@hbi2k Because getting that impulse exposure on a Walmart shelf is a good way to get people into the game, who wouldn't otherwise think about it?

It is a bit silly, though. Don't get me started on paying for the game AND a monthly fee AND expansions.

Yes, it is 2010 dude, and that's all the more reason why his statement makes sense. Almost everyone has broadband and more companies are switching to pay per use model to limit usage of an increasingly expensive/tight resource (those cables can only carry so much and don't lay themselves!). It and Net Neutrality have been very big issues lately. It's 2010 dude, don't you know you can keep up with basic world events and politics that impact your life without having to leave your PC?

Imagine playing SC2 with input lag. That is your mouse pointer is always lagging slightly behind where it should be. Not a very good experience is it? Even an extremely low ping would be gamebreaking.

@Tercotta Yes day and date. You could even pre download the game before it was released. I didn't since I got the collectors edition and same with cataclysm, eeven if they do it.

If Blizzard wants everyone to play as soon as the servers are turned on, it needs to make the game available to load before the servers are on.

Actually, they are. The digital pre-order for Cataclysm will let you download it entirely before dec 7th.

If only the blizzard store wasn't ridiculously overpriced compared to retail. a twenty euro margin (starcraft 2 in most of my local stores) goes way beyond my being able to laugh it off.

I would like it if Amazon and other online stores emailed you the product key in addition to mailing the game.
Release date delivery is good enough in most cases, but sometimes you just want to stay up and play the second you are able to.
Pre-install + emailed product key on release date + store credit/gift card (or other discounts) = WIN!
