Atlus is currently refreshing PSone RPG Persona 2: Innocent Sin for the PSP. Announced in Japanese mag Famitsu (via Siliconera), the release will be in line with that seen in Persona, adding widescreen visuals, gameplay tweaks and a new animation for the opening (the original movie will also be in there for purists). Shoji Meguro, who was in charge of the Persona remake, will direct this project.
Persona 2 actually released in two parts as Innocent Sin and Eternal Punishment. The latter made it to North America in late 2000, but Innocent Sin has never been officially localized for distribution. We're following up with Atlus to see if it plans on bringing Innocent Sin stateside this time around.
Update: Atlus has "no comment" on a North American release of Persona 2: Innocent Sin.

Anyone know the name of the artist who does everything for these games? The style is so cool I want to see what else he/she is up to.

There are actually two.
The Persona: Revelations, Eternal Punishment, and Innocent Sin all had character art done by Kazuma Kaneko. Kaneko is behind the art direction of nearly every other SMT game, including the main series, Digital Devil Saga, and Devil Summoner. This is why the first two Persona games have such dark art.
After the rather long gap from Persona 2 until Persona 3, the main art director changed to Shigenori Soejima, thus completely altering the art style (just compare two screen shots, should be readily apparent). His art style is continuing with games like Catherine.
I know it's fairly divided within the fan base which is preferred, but I think Soejima's fits the Persona series more, while Kaneko does an excellent job with the rest of the SMT series and subseries.

I've learned my lesson and refuse to get excited about this hopefully being localized. I am still depressed about never getting Xenoblade, Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Reverie, and The Last Story localized.

Anyone know how well Persona 2 stacks up against Persona 3 or 4?
Posted: Oct 27th 2010 11:03AM Drew327 said
@DarkKingSilvers I haven't played either portion so I probably shouldn't be responding (but its the internet, where people talk about what they don't know). But my impression is with 3 and 4 the games got a lot "lighter" in the presentation/dialogue (though, some of the events were still pretty dark)
Playing the Persona 1 PSP remake, the feel of the game was completely different from 3 and 4. I really liked it though, and it has the "demon negotiation/conversation" stuff that 3 and 4 lack, which can be pretty fun.

So you would say that the themes (at least in Persona 1 and likely in 2 as well) are more mature/darker in general?
If so, that's awesome. I just hope the gameplay ages well.

I can guarantee you that the gameplay has not aged well.
But if you get into the right mindset, I'm sure you'll be fine. I mean we all get Nostalgic for clunky PS1 RPG's, right?

Right?

Well if Innocent Sin is similar to Eternal Punishment, should be alright. Its been a long while since I've played it but the story was definitely interesting. As was the "rumor" mechanic in the game (at the time at least). It can definitely be tough, like any Persona game is though.

Was really hoping that they would just remake both of them and release them as one package.
But something is better than nothing, I suppose.

It couldn't fit on UMD. That was the official response, if I remember correctly.

At least they're doing something with it ... I'm still a little miffed by their "re-release for their fans" of Persona 2 for the PS1 on Amazon about a year ago. Within five minutes the reprint sold out to resellers who then went back to selling it for $100+

I know! I thought the price would stay down but it shot back up big time! Nocturne on the other hand has still has lots of copies in circulation and has a still reasonable price to it on Amazon.

I am excited about this title, because I really enjoyed playing Eternal Punishment. It was surprisingly atmospheric.
I would love it if the remake kills the 'demon negotiating system' randomness in favor of a more predictable demon summoning system like Persona 3 or 4.

No, the new system is just gonna show you how the demons are feeling to make things a lot easier. If you got the hang of it the first time and knew how the demons react, hard dungeons were a lot more manageable because you could get the demons to heal you up, no problem.

Loved Persona 2, at least eternal punishment, the one that got released here. It'd be great to play an update of the one I missed... specially if the "port" has awesome music as Persona 1's remake.
