"The PlayStation Phone in the photos we ran last night, and the device reported on back in August is most definitely real. We're not saying that because we want to believe or because we're gingerly trying to nab pageviews: we're saying it because we know it to be true."Meanwhile, SCEE's original statement regarding the device -- "These images are definitely fake" -- has turned into: "Sony doesn't comment on rumour or speculation" (as has Sony Ericsson's statement). When contacted, SCEA counterparts similarly told us, "We do not comment on rumors or speculation." Unfortunately, suggesting to Sony that the PlayStation Phone doesn't appear to be either "rumor" or "speculation" didn't elicit further comment.
PlayStation Phone prototype further detailed, codenamed 'Zeus'

Continuing coverage of the PlayStation Phone leak, Engadget has now posted details about the unannounced gaming slash celly device. Apparently the phone is currently known as "Zeus" internally and isn't running Android 3.0 firmware just yet (it's said to be running on 2.X for now). Additionally, Engadget reports, citing "multiple, trusted sources ... and we're not just talking good tipsters -- some of our information comes from people much more closely connected to the project," that the "rumor" nature of the device is no longer in effect:

Seems TheMCFacemanBandcampcom is the only one who gets the hardware design.
What I don't get is how the rest can comment on a piece of hardware that you have never used. Digital DPads work perfectly fine on Apple's iDevices, they simply just get in the way. This appears to be a direct way of combatting it, but as always most people just bitch about something that they really have no actual knowledge on. If this can be applied in the same manner I see no issues with the design.
Just think, do you use the same dual shock through an entire console generation? So why would you take the risk of dropping $$$ on a part that stands a high chance to be replaced due to wear and tear. I would assume this is there way of combating it, as mobile phones go through much more daily abuse that handheld's go through.

Digital D-pads suck. Yes, even on the beloved iPhone.

It's all good. Well speaking as someone who works in the mobile game industry I can assure you that there are many companies who have perfected DPad's on the touchscreen. However the biggest obstacle with these digital ones has been feedback.
With the simple bevel they have in the casing this could provide the feedback needed, that has been lacking on touchscreen's.

Your comment scares me. I am now worried that mobile phone game developers actually think digital d-pads are okay.

Bet Sony will do it all wrong and not support it, just like the GO.
With the right support it could be amazing but I got bad feeling about this.

Its gonna be Android so you can put some emulators on there. Gonna be awesome playing some old-school games like Donkey Kong Country with a real control pad!

I'm a big Sony fan and not even I can pretend they didn't mess up with the GO.
There's nothing wrong with the idea of it, or even what it is just Sony put it out there and has left it out there constantly pushing the 3000 and doing 3000 bundles etc.
The deals on the store are nowhere near the price I see UMD games going for. Big whoop you get a couple of free games, but for being overcharged and hindered.

I don't know why it took so long for me to realize but the body style and layout is almost identical to the PSP Go's....

If this is real I'd buy it in a heartbeat.
I love my PSP, but let's face it: It's not a device you just carry everywhere with you. And I am sick of having so many devices when I travel. If I could just play Valkyria Chronicles 2 on my phone I would be in heaven.

Hmm, I think I'm gonna go with what Blunty said.
"Y'know it's no coincidence that the so-called "playstation phone" was "leaked" right as Xbox Live on Windows Phone 7 is getting press right?"
"tech and gaming "leaks" are so predictable these days... they always happen JUST as whoever the competition is, is getting hype"
"Look for another "leak" of the "playstation phone" or similar android portable gaming device just as the Nintendo 3DS launches"

I'm 99% sure this isn't the PSP 2.
It's just a nice mobile gaming cell for loyal Sony fans.

Sorry, but I highly doubt that Sony would be getting rid of the PSP name. This would not be branded an Ericsson phone if it was a PSP product.

If they're working on this, the PSP2 will be amazing. put this out, see how it is received and then improve, make a bit bigger.

Is this going to break as easy as the other three Sony Ericsson phones I've had?
If so I'll pass.

This isn't nowhere like the PSP2. Sony should do 2 tiers just like Apple w/ PSP phone and PSP2.
If phone works as android and still be able to connect to the PSN, I'm game!!!
Next year my contract w/ AT&T expires and I'll see how the new iPhone stacks up against this. I can't wait!
