Capcom first-half FY 2010 finds sales up, profits down
17
Capcom is gettin' by, as the publisher announced that sales were up 4.7 percent, with net profit down 39.9 percent, during the first half of fiscal year 2010, ending March 31, 2011. The publisher also announced that Jun Takeuchi can now add "Corporate Officer" to his already outrageous title of "Deputy Head of Consumer Games R&D Division and General Manager of R&D Production Department." Think that title sounds serious in English? Check it out in Japanese: 執 行 役 員CS開発副統括 兼 制作部長.
Net sales reached ¥40.7 billion ($501M) during the six-month period ending September 30, 2010, thanks to the release of Dead Rising 2 and continued sales of Super Street Fighter IV. The publisher also stated that Sengoku BASARA: Samurai Heroes and Monster Hunter spin-off Monhan Nikki Pokapoka Airu Mura shipped over 500 thousands units apiece. These titles helped push that 4.7% increase in sales over the same period last year. Overall, Capcom states sales were stagnant due to the late release of Dead Rising 2 and the "substantial underperformance" of Lost Planet 2.
Due to the sales issues, net profit for the first half was ¥1.7 billion ($22 million, down 39.9%). The company forecasts it'll end the fiscal year next March with sales of ¥91 billion ($1.1 billion) and a net income of ¥6.5 billion ($80 million).

Time to release Final Fight 2 and 3 on PSN and XBLA (Without the lame DRM this time, please). Easy money.

Capcom had such a strong year this year. Seeing them losing profits just isn't right.

@Alexisonfire Agreed. I don't care what anyone says, Capcom's been making some amazing games lately.
LP2, MHTri, and Sengoku Basara 3 were all fantastic games, no matter how much people want to delude themselves.
It's like today's gamers automatically think originality = bad.
If they make LP3, all they have to do to make it sell well is make it first person, (we don't want to see our characters! Silly goose!)
get rid of the detailed animations, (who needs good animation when you can run at 30 mph!?)
get rid of machine gun stun, (because we all know games are more fun when you can just run around getting filled with bullets that don't affect anything other than your health, to hell with strategy!)
get rid of the awesome customization, (nobody seems to realize how much of it there is anyways,)
and while they're at it, replace monsters and E.D.N. III factions with terrorists, and make it all take place during a war instead of a sci-fi setting, (because then people won't complain about a story, since it'll be so realistic! Derp!)
Oh, and last but not least, today's gamers have very very small minds and are unable to learn new controls, so just copy those from another shooter too.
Might want to throw in some homophobic marketing too, just to be safe.
And there you have it; how to turn an original and unique shooter into a shooter that today's gamers will blindly buy. On top of that it'll get 9/10's all over review sites too!

TBH, I was overlooking Lost Planet 2 when I said Capcom had a good year.
I respect Lost Planet 2 for its originality. I hate it for being a bad game.

I wish there was a special "keyboard for people with common sense" with a "it's not bad just because you don't like it" key on it.
Seriously, when are the current generation of gamers going to grow up?
I know you can't ALL be 12 year olds, though most of you seem quite determined to sound like one.

I would never describe myself as a current gen gamer. I'm too stuck in previous generations, especially the PS2 era, to be bothered with most games nowadays. Which is why I gravitate to the DS, the PSP, and various indie games.
Also, what twelve year old do you know that knows anything about respect?
Really, I would like to meet them. They seem like a promising member of society.

It would have been had you replied to my first post.
Replying to my second post makes your comment nonsensical.

Maybe if they made a few more games where the plot and dialogue wasn't written by a budgie with a brain tumour, the controls vaguely did what you told them and stopped relying on sequels to franchises that were never that good to begin with, they might make more money.
I mean I loved Capcom, but they hardly have kept up with the times have they?

"Lost Planet 2 was quite a decent game, although not perfect!!" - I will yell at the top of my lungs as I die the death of a martyr, sword in hand, struck down by a legion of naysayers.

Lost Planet 2 is pretty epic.
Couch co-op? Check.
Decent challenge enough where you are tempted to try a boss on easy but don't (.006% of mainstream review sites stuck it through)? Check.
Epic feeling of accomplishment when you and your couchmate beat that sumbeetch? Check!
"OK! One more" gameism due to leveling/exp/customization?
Game that treats you like a gamer much like Demon's Souls does? Check!
Unqualified reviewers reviewed Demon's Souls and almost killed it !!
While at the same time hyping GARBAGE because everyone else was doing it too.
So thanks review sites with crap review methodology thanks to you we get gems such as Kill a Brownie 16: "This time it's personal" and FPS Level Up Your Airstrike 30k.
Gamers remember their roots just enough to forget what created those fond memories. Most of them came from something novel.
N o v e l :
fresh: original and of a kind not seen before; "the computer produced a completely novel proof of a well-known theorem"
A n d
pleasantly new or different; "common sense of a most refreshing sort"
