Following this week's announcement that Xbox manager Scott Henson is taking over as the head of Rare, the newly appointed exec is defending his studio's mission to the media. Speaking with Eurogamer, Henson re-established Kinect as "a key part of the studio's future," adding that it won't exclusively be working on 360 motion games, "but it will be the centerpiece of our strategy for sure."
He also teased further support for Rare's back catalog. When asked about revisiting the titles -- and even the possibility of adding Kinect functionality -- Henson explains, "You can look at what we're doing with Xbox Live Arcade and you can see how we've taken those classics and refreshed them and brought them to the service. We'll continue to look at those kinds of opportunities. Don't just think about packaged goods in terms of opportunities and Rare and how we bring those things to life." Unfortunately, Henson was less talkative on the subject of Killer Instinct, only offering "I know Killer Instinct is very high in the fan list and one we need to continue to keep our eye on."

You need not only to "keep your eye on" Killer Instinct, but make it a priority. That is, IF YOU LIKE MONEY, RARE.

How about they make "making good games" a key part of the studio's future? I'm sure they can pull that off on the Kinect as well, but seriously, Rare's been lackluster for years now, although Nuts and Bolts was pretty okay.

Dude, chill out with the Rare hate. Been seeing that a lot lately, especially right here on Joystiq. Just because Rare doesn't make Donkey Kong games anymore doesn't mean they suck. Far from it. I still see that symbol and know that goodness is about to come...The only thing I really, really, really want from Rare is another Conker game, preferably not Kinect related. They had some good times with Nintendo, but lets face it how many times could they just keep making the same four franchises fresh again?

Killer Instinct sequel confirmed? Not sure if I really want it on Kinect, though.

This has nothing to do with Kinect. He is not too subtly hinting that a Killer Instinct remake is coming to XBLA similar to Perfect Dark.

I wouldn't mind a Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts 2 for Kinect. I think they should also give fans such as myself a Banjo-Threeie, if they don't want to spend a load of money on that why not just release it on XBLA with the Banjo-Kazooie/Tooie remake engine? I'd enjoy that.

Microsoft Check-List Circa 2002:
Step 1: Purchase Rare, run the studio into the ground over next decade.
Step 2: Cancel Viva Pinata.
Step 3: Appoint new boss at Rare. Focus on new, unproven, late-to-the-party cash-in hardware.
Step 4a: Continue not making Killer Instinct 3.
Step 4b: Possibly make Killer Instinct 3 as a Kinect-only game royally pissing off fans.
Step 5: ????
Step 6: Profit.

Now that I think about it Kameo could work really well with Kinect. The whole game was about inhabiting the body of another creature and controlling it's powers. Kinect basically lets you step inside of and control an avatar's body. In Kinect Adventures there are these rewards which reminds me of Kameo a little that lets you get inside of a Yeti or other creature and control it's body like a puppet.

F off with Killer Instinct. Its some olden-day fighting game. theres enough fighting games for christ sake. Much higher on my priority list is Conker and Banjo Kazooie. it is anti-productive to keep pointlessly bring up killer instinct.
