As a fan of the 360 version, I have to say I'm kind of glad these updates haven't come out. I love playing it on Steam and Live, and I wouldn't bother if they didn't feel like two different games at this point. When I get tired of all the crazy in the current version, it's nice to fall back on what is essentially the core game experience on the 360.

I played a lot of this map last night and it's loads of fun. The game got really chaotic every time the Horsemann appeared and he'd start lopping off torsos left and right. Temporary alliances would be formed to take it down before we'd go right back to killing each other. Of course, things got problematic when MULTIPLE Horsemenn appeared.

PROTIP: Sorry Spies, your Dead Ringer is useless against the Horseless Headless Horsemann. Don't even try it.

@False It's even considered bad form to shoot the other team while that git is about. Most want to get the horseman. Killing those trying just pisses everyone off usually.

If you want to achievement whore or item mine, do it on your own server. Some of us want to play the game, and that means killing the other team.

It's not really achievement whoring- considering the massive amounts of murder Ol' Headless (as I am now calling him) can wreak on both teams, it is in the interest of all players to bring him down.

Wait, hold on... they're going to have an NPC that runs around the map with no alliance to either team, just killing whoever it sees?

That is awesome!

@MLS Yeah, he's been around since last night. Not only can he one hit kill you, but he can stun you by shouting "BOO!" Also he drops items, however the hat you get for killing him is only for the event.

I'm confused. I thought this was TEAM fortress. If HE's not on their team and he's not on my team, what team is he on? And is he a team of one? And If the other team lands the killing blow, do they win? Or do we just go back to fighting each other?

This is the kind of community commitment I like to see. Valve never tries to push you to their next high-profile multi-player release by letting the last one go stale.

Even Guild Wars still gets decked out for the holidays. Do a lot of other games do this sort of thing?

I get that Valve is first and foremost a PC company, and they're going to support that platform primarily, but gottdamn, TF2 on the consoles was abandoned like a fat prom date who had been dumped for a good looking lady. 0 updates. 0 love.

@berzirk You can't blame Valve for that.
Valve didn't develop the PS3 version, and Microsoft won't let Valve release the updates on XBL, and there is also memory-issues.
Valve has done nothing wrong here, you can see they're trying to avoid this with Portal 2, as they have included Steamworks on the PS3 version. You cannot say Valve doesn't care.

Blame Microsoft and their policies for restricting developers to release free DLC. And Valve had nothing to do with the development of the PS3 version.

@berzirk They've said before that it's mostly because they don't want to deal with the update certification process from MS. It takes months to get an update published and in order to do something like this Halloween update, they would have had to submit it to MS back in May.

@NeoHumpty Yah, I get that it's not all Valve's fault, but if they needed to wait 6 months and release a $5 expansion pack with just SOME stuff, I'd be a very happy camper, and it would signficantly extend the number of people playing TF2 online. When it first came out, my 360 would just look at me, roll its eyes, and start up the game. MS or not, they could have elected to jump through some minor hoops to get a more feature-laden version on the console through updates...if they wanted to.

@Jack Spicer

It seems to have a shit ton of HP, so I'd imagine it doesn't. It's even withstood more than a couple of Soldier crit rockets.

And good luck aiming at it. It's got a huge head, but it moves fast.

@Jack Spicer The HHH has 3,000 HP, plus 200 HP for each player. So well over 7,000 HP on a full server.

Headshots, charged, do 450 damage.

Backstabs are reported to do 1,000 damage to the HHH. But good luck backstabbing him, as he 1-hit kills anyone, and isn't fooled by disguises, cloak, etc.

Pretty sure Jack meant the question to be funny, since the Horseless, Headless Horsemann is headless.

In spite of a few glitched achievements that I have had to get multiple times now and an insane amount of lag when the Horsemann appears, the new Halloween pack is awesome. The addition of a common enemy with a mountain of health and an insta-kill axe throws a whole new dynamic into the game (not to mention something to shoot other than the opposite team). Plus, it is truly brilliant the first time you see him rise up out of one of the control points and start rampaging around the map.

Actually it's not the first boss. It may be the first official one but I'm very sure it's based off the Saxton Hale mod. In it 1 player becomes Saxton Hale with a ton of hp, able to quickly jump around the map, and yell a taunt that suddenly incapacitates players. Something also to mention about this headless horseless horsemann thing is that you get a hat and haunted scrap metal for being the person to land the killing blow (thats what the ghostd achievement is). You might need to use a melee weapon to get the hat, I'm not sure i got it hitting him with the axetinguisher. The hat is his head and expires after halloween, but the metal can be crafted into a halloween hat or weapon that will stay. Anyway the point is you can still kill each other and fight for/defend the point. You don't HAVE to fight him, but the reason people make momentary alliances is twofold: They want the achievement/hat more than they want to win the round and he will kill you. He is fast and can kill anything in one blow and if you ignore him he may still come for you.
