Call of Duty: Black Ops launch trailer is just a shot away, it's just a shot away
65
Premiering during tonight's Sunday Night football game is this Rolling Stones-infused Call of Duty: Black Ops trailer which proclaims – for once in advertising, not hyperbolically – that it's the "biggest game of 2010." What makes it so big? We could point out the base jumping, the SR-71 Blackbird, or any of the other cinematic touchstones that Treyarch is trotting out for its fourth take on the blockbuster series. Instead, we're going to suggest that any marketing budget that licenses The Rolling Stones for a Sunday Night Football spot is enough to convince us it's a "big" video game. Either that or it's Windows 95.

It's kinda like those guys who buy the really big trucks. They need to say something is "biggest" up front before the actual action, helps balance out the difference.

Aw, did you have to spoil that they used that song? I love Call of Duty. I love Gimme Shelter. If I didn't see it coming, I would have been all like 'AMG HELLS YEAH'.
On another note, they really ought to stop having each trailer end with that same, annoying noise.

Is it just me, or does this game look exactly like Modern Warfare from 3 years ago? Compared to other games on the market right now, this games isn't something I would call "Unbelievably gorgeous". Still, looking forward to the game!

I agree. I am psyched for the game, but with Activision's cash mountain, you'd hope they'd build a better in-game engine. . . but then I realized wait, this is Activision.

I wouldn't say "unbelievably," but going from MW to MW2, they surprised me with the graphics. Considering it's the same engine (isn't it?), the game doesn't really need something better. I think it's a great engine to produce more realistic graphics, unlike killzone 2 (which IS unbelievably gorgeous at times IMO) where it doesn't need to be realistic, so they can add all sorts of exagerated lighting and unrealistic filters.
I suppose the textures could be higher res, and I'm sure it could get better, and will, but I still think it looks great ^_^ And MW2 definitely looked better than 1.

Trailer is phenomenal. Rolling Stones should be used in more video game trailers.
Still, somehow I feel they should've used "Paint it Black" because then it be like "Paint it Black (ops)". It writes itself!

@LAZoftheTamarinds I'll admit, I had convinced myself that it would be Paint It Black before I ever clicked on this thread. I was disappointed.

This may be the copious amounts of Halloween booze and candy talking, but this trailer made me want to play the single player campaign (I already planned to run the gun game and one in the chamber modes into the ground).

"Trailer is phenomenal. Rolling Stones should be used in more video game trailers."
The cost to license a Rolling Stones master costs somewhere close to half a million dollars. That's a drop in the bucket for a game as high profile as Black Ops, which undoubtedly has a marketing budget that'd be enough for an average person to retire on. Not every game is this high profile.
"Still, somehow I feel they should've used "Paint it Black" because then it be like "Paint it Black (ops)". It writes itself!"
Paint it black is about heroin addiction. Gimme Shelter is a direct response to the Vietnam War and the confusing, frightening geopolitical climate of the late 60s. It's also a better song.

I was thinking the same, but i might pick it up and trade it in after it's own community ruins the multiplayer like they did with MW2.
I'm just praying the UK supermarkets run the same deal they did last year for MW2, launch day and half price? Yes please.

These comments are all confusing me. Why hasn't anyone said "this is gonna destroy Halo" or "Halo is way better" yet? Can it be that gamers are uniting, and no longer comparing two amazing games? Have we all become rational people? What is this madness I say, what is it?!

Hmmm.. the Rolling Stones on a funky 'show nothing' movie edit, played on the TV prime time football game.
This my friends, if just one of the reasons COD is always much more expensive than any other launch title!!
You are the victims of capitalism. Enjoy the game

@coincidence I'm not sure that you know what you're talking about to be honest. Launch titles are games that release with a new system or peripheral... this isn't that. On top of that, how does it cost the consumer more money than any other $60 title that comes out? You make no sense my friend.

i think the Call Of Duty Series should start putting out games focused on Multiplayer Only, cause that is the main reason these games sell very well. I could less about campaign.

the inclusion of Multiplayer elements.. in my opinion is damping down many single player experiences.. as the 'fan boys' demand it. But come on, lets face it... multiplayer is always the same... (to a more or lesser degree)
I think those who don't want multiplayer should be able to buy a version without it, for 10-15$ less than the game with. It's only fair, and logical!

I hate multiplayer too but don't forget that for that to work, the version WITH multiplayer would have to cost more.
They could fiddle with pricing, but something like,
multiplayer (only) version = $50, singleplayer (only) version = $50, or buy both with an incredible $30 saving at only $70 special edition!
might work
and might also let them decide how to allocate resources in future (for example, nobody buys the singleplayer-only? then provide only a trivial few hours of singleplayer experience - wait, that's the current situation).
