Got your eye on one of those new Xbox 360 controllers with the magical, transforming D-pad, but not willing to pony up the dough? Good news, because Buy.com has the controllers up for pre-order for $52 with free shipping, saving $13 and saving your fat wallet from transforming into an empty one.
It's worth noting that the controller isn't actually supposed to be released until November 9, while Buy.com lists it as in stock, noting that it usually ships in one business day. The listing definitely refers to the transforming D-pad though, so the deal appears legit and offers a significant discount over the standard $65 price.

But is it compatible with PCs?

That is terrible pricing! Don't spend 34 bucks on the wireless receiver. Microsoft discontinued them due to extremely poor sales and about a year or less ago demand grew greatly for whatever reason. As a result all online prices are over retail. Check your local Walmart (clearance isle perhaps) they are 19.99.

I see I have been voted down. People actually buy that wireless controller accessory? I would never spend $100 just to be able to use a controller on a PC. For that price you can buy 2.5 wired 360 controllers (unless you already have one, then its only another $65 investment).
I was aware of the wireless receiver, but he didn't specifically mention that in the post.

@New Waster And the minute I press "Submit" the damn thing installs itself on my PC. Great. Now I'll never wash this shame out.

Let me know when they have one with an Optimus Prime color scheme. I want to be able to say "transform and roll out" every time I flip that dpad.

@Faceless Troll I honestly don't mind the color scheme of this controller at all. It actually looks real slick. Better than my all black controller I currently use. And I don't need color coding for the buttons. (my wife does so she can use my black one).
They must have these guys in stock as I ordered one last night and it already shipped via UPS.
Thanks for the Heads up Joystiq!

Does the d-pad still feel like a quarter balanced on top of a pea?

@SuperWoody64 The d-pad does feel improved, as do the analog sticks. The face of them has a slight change for the better.

Yeah I ordered one from them last week through Buy.com's eBay Storefront which was the real deal on these for $47.99 shipped. I received it today or should I now say yesterday Tuesday, Nov 2nd, a week before intended release. The new d-pad is better but it isn't as impressive as it should be after all this time.

I ordered one from Buy.com as well and I'm pretty happy with it. The D-pad does feel improved though I'm waiting to play some BlazBlue to see if it's working as intended. My only beef at this point is the finish- it feels painted on, and it gives the impression that it'll rub off after a while.

I think I have to wait for reviews before deciding to spend $65 for a new controller.
I don't really need it until Marvel vs Capcom 3 comes out.

Why does it have to have the ugly grey buttons and overall grey color scheme? Just release one with the normal colors : P

As these 2 gentlemen succinctly put it: The controllers bundled with play n charge kits are usually $65. This is a savings of $5 when purchased separately. So please pay attention next time and think before you comment.

Actually I think you're just deliberately misunderstanding each other. He's not commenting on the price itself. He's saying relative to what's in this deal compared to what you could be getting in terms of 360 controllers, it doesn't cost much. Your problem is inherent with the price of 360 controllers altogether.

Shmexy controller, but at this point, if I were in the market for another one, I'd get a Scorch. I'm tired of dying from my 13% accuracy with analogue sticks.

not so sure about these things. i splurged for a 360 S and the controller that game with it had issues with the left analog stick. kinda hard to explain, but, in games that would normally have your character running at full speed if the stick was at full tilt, they would only walk (i did not have the stick tilted from it's default setting when powering it on, either). i went and bought another one (the solid black model that comes with the 360 S console) and, this time, the left analog stick "sticks" when tilted to the left. this is mostly noticeable in menus when making left/right selections; select to the left, let the stick go and it will just keep making selections for as long as the cursor can move to the left. in-game, characters will continue to move to the left even after letting the stick go.
anyway, i'll be holding off on buying anymore controllers for awhile, i think.
