Rumor: SOCOM's Slant Six working on multiplayer Resident Evil
36
Known best for its work on the SOCOM franchise, Vancouver-based Slant Six Games is rumored be working on a forthcoming Resident Evil title for Capcom. The game is said to be named "Resident Evil: Raccoon City." According to a document handed to Kotaku, the unannounced RE title is team-based, with various Slant Six employees' LinkedIn profiles indicating the studio is working on an unannounced "multiplayer action game." The Slant Six official website indicates that "an amazing new project" is in development in conjunction with a "new publishing partner on a world class franchise."
For its part, Capcom maintains that it "does not respond to rumors and/or speculation," and Slant Six had yet to respond to request for comment as of publishing. Sharing one of its biggest franchises with a Western developer wouldn't be a new strategy for Capcom -- Dead Rising 2 was developed by Vancouver-based Blue Castle Games (which Capcom subsequently purchased), and Devil May Cry is now in the hands of Enslaved developer Ninja Theory.

Not if slant six have anyhting to do with it, lol
If they implemented more of that slow gameplay into the Socom game they made, it would have lived up to expectations, instead of being a run and gun killing spree rather then stealth and skill.

People seem to forget that outbreak 2 brought walking and gunning to resident evil way back on ps2. Besides that I don't know why people complain about hardly breaks the game.
Anyway I hope they do take a slower MP approach to this left 4 dead already fills that frenzy slot

While I enjoy both games, I always thought the new engine and over-shoulder gameplay would've been epic with the classic survival horror, slow moving zombies of the past installments in the series.
Even when RE1, 2, or 3 were new and innovative, they were hard to play because of the camera, aiming, shootings were restrictive. I think part of the success of RE4 and RE5 is not that they are great games but because they finally gave the RE series some freedom, people thought it was a breath of fresh air. I like the new RE, but Dead space is definitely superior for a survival horror..

The game build for socom they used would be excellent for RE. Unfortunately the socom game slant six made sucked

Nothing better then stealthily taking out zombies with a sniper rifle, pop! One to the head, now just to wait....

That's interesting considering Slant Six is a second party Sony studios developer.

I don't get it, is Capcom incapable of making any of its own games anymore?

@wcarnation It's beginning to seem that way. Which worries me especially with titles like DMC.

With Mikami and Kamiya and now Inafune gone Capcom really lacks any true visionaries as it comes to game design.Ono is the only good designer they have left so expect only Street Fighter/VS.games from them inhouse

Take solace in the fact that Ninja Theory's last game was extremely well-received critically. They may actually be able to give DMC some semblance of an actual story

@Brother Unit No 4 Last time I played DMC, I wasn't concerned about the story when I was making freeform combo chains on a bajillion enemies that could take me out in 2 hits.

@Brother Unit No 4 That I do. I liked what I played of enslaved. The worry here is that they will just turn Dante's awesome combat into something a bit less awesome. Story wise there is no doubt it will be good. Might even clear up some loose ends. It's just the combat that worries me

This generation's Resident Evil Outbreak? Excellent.
Would be even nicer if you could create your own character...

I can see it now, play as the full stars team working as a squad killing off zombies in raccoon city. As much as I would hate that, I can see it working very well..

Well if they keep all the charcters as well costumes like outbreak had there will be a lot to choose from, chaactets were pretty likable though create a character would be cool bit everyone having a different skill really made it special. Since it helped with teamwork, guess well see what they do

As long as it isn't RE6. Maybe this will be a squad based HUNK game or something.

This better not be a PSP game... I want it on PS3.

It lost most of the horror in the "survival horror" label it had been given. I'm not bashing the new games by any means but I prefer scary survival horror games with good puzzles rather than fun shooters with weird looking locals to shoot at.

IF THEY ARE WESTERN DEVELOPERS, THEY MUST BE GOOD. SO SAYETH CAPCOM.
Even if, as I understand it, nobody actually gives a crap about Socom.

Socom : Confrontation had a lot wrong with it and was riddled with bugs. This is both very intriguing yet horrible news.
