Microsoft sends out secret invites to 1 vs. 100-style 'Full House Poker' game

Joystiq reader Rob kindly forwarded us an email from Microsoft Game Studios about a private beta for a game called Full House Poker, described as a way to "bet your way to fame as you compete against your friends and thousands of other players around the world in live Texas Heat poker game shows." The concept sounds extremely like 1 vs. 100 with a coating of poker paint, allowing players to pick up XP and other rewards (including "unique tells and avatar accessories") by playing poker in "regularly scheduled episodes."

Sounds fun! The email also stresses that the beta is "highly confidential" (whoops), and that it requires an Xbox Live Gold subscription in the US, Canada, or Mexico. Note that those restrictions are only on the beta, and might not be on the full game. But the email says the game will be rated T for teen, thanks to "simulated gambling." 1 vs. 100 is unfortunately gone forever, but it looks like Full House Poker might be Microsoft's second foray into episode-based massively multiplayer gaming.

As popular as poker is these days, I think this is going to be a much bigger hit than 1 vs 100.

Sounds interesting. I enjoyed 1 vs 100 so anything expanding on that concept is good on me.

No no noooo. If they are gonna do this then why kill 1 vs 100? Why not ....DO BOTH! Imagine a weekly nighttime line-up of different games and be angered this is not reality. I think if there was a nighttime programming block of family safe games they could really pull in the casuals.

My only hesitation on this is that when people are gambling with fake money they don't play the same way. I got some stupid texas hold em game on xbox, and every body just goes all in all the time. It was broken.

Loved 1 vs 100 though, so I hope they figure out how to make it work.

It's like that on most services for play money. Full Tilt, Spade Club... try going into a 250 "play money" tournament. 9.9 out of 10 times, SOMEONE will go all in on the first hand, and 10 out of 10 of THOSE times, at least one person will call.

Rather frustrating, and I'll admit when I see Rockets I tend to play along (after all, it is play money) but hopefully this system will weed out those who play for kicks versus those who play for keeps.

Actually, bluffing would be cool. As in, Kinect reading your facial expressions. That would never happen, but I can dream.

Why would I want to play poker with Bob Saget?

Ugh. Bring back 1 vs 100 so I can get that last Achievement.

I made sure I got those 200 as quick as possible.

I'm really obsessive over my Gamerscore, I like to finish games on round numbers ending in 00 or 50. I like to have over 500 in each if possible, 100+ for Arcade games.

God knows what'll happen if I ever get a 1 GS Achievement.

I think its pretty cool to have a gamerscore end without a 0 or a 5. My gamerscore ends in either 2 or 7 because of the Half-Life 2 achievement for shooting a ball through a basketball net. I know what the 3G achievement it but I'll never want to get it. NEVER!!!
