PSA: Xbox 360 S Kinect bundle doesn't come with Kinect AC adapter

Here we are, having our own little private November Christmas, tearing apart the freshly delivered Xbox 360 S console bundle, replete with Kinect and Kinect Adventures, only to make an inconvenient discovery -- the Xbox 360 S Kinect bundle doesn't contain a standalone power cord for Kinect, leaving folks who want to use those Kinects on older (pre-Slim) Xbox 360s in the lurch. How in the world are we going to show Grandma all our stylish new Dance Central moves when she's only got a regular Xbox 360?

As of this minute, Microsoft isn't showing individual Kinect power cords on its website, though a Microsoft rep is looking into whether they'll be offered in the future. An Xbox Support team member notes on the Xbox.com forums, "If you wish to use your Kinect with an older Xbox, you would need to purchase the Kinect stand-alone kit. This includes the sensor, [Kinect] Adventures, and all the necessary cables." Otherwise, unless Grandma's got her own Kinect, or an Xbox 360 S, your dance moves are staying firmly holstered in your own abode.

I don't think it should have one with it.

What it SHOULD have, at the very least, is component cables.

I agree. They don't expect you to need to connect this to an older Xbox 360 anymore, and putting it in there would probably only cause confusion.

HD cables of any kind though would be nice like you said. Something I wish my PS3 and Arcade came with for sure.

Totally agree, microsoft shouldn't have to include it. However, they really should make the power cord available for purchase seperately, if not in stores, at least through their site. I'm sure there are a decent number of old 360 owners out there who should be allowed access to play kinect without having to buy a new 360 or its acompanying bundle.

But the stand alone bundle comes with an AC adapter therefore there wouldn't be a reason to get a new 360

I didnt expect one in the box either, what I did think would be in there is a HD transfer kit (got the 250 bundle) .

@ScorchCAG Major Nelson said it was going to come in the package. I have a situation where I want to use Kinect with my old 360 so I am definitely disappointed it is not there.

Yeah, what would be the point of putting this in the bundle? They obviously left it out so you could sell it off to easy.

What i meant was, if the console doesn't need it, why would they include it in the bundle? Seems like common sense to me

I'm not surprised, I didn't expect them to include it. However, it would have been nice.

i mean sure it would be handy but a slightly pointless cost since its intended to be used with the slim 360 thats in the bundle

Why would you need the adapter when the bundle comes with the new Xbox 360?

It wouldn't be gaming hardware if it didn't ask you to buy an adapter/cable/extra controller of some kind.

Is anyone shocked that the company who makes you pay for peer to per network gaming did not put a stand alone power cord in the box? If you are, you shouldn't be.

@theangryheretic I'm about as shocked as when I discovered the PS3 comes with a short little usb cable for charging the controller, forcing me to buy a cable extender.

@Chibi Chaingun So what are you supposed to do if you take your Kinect to a friends house to play? That friend does not have the bundle, if they did, you would not take yours over there.

If you want to bring it to a friend's place, just bring the system too. It's not like it's super small and slimline or anything :)

Why would you buy the system bundle and plug the kinect into an old system...

Does Microsoft really think that people are gonna buy a new slim model with every connect purchased? Do they really think that not having a power cord will push over those towards the slim model who don't know any better?

This is unethical in my opinion. Your selling an electrical product Microsoft. Believe it or not it's not the same thing as "batteries not included".

@Nofriendo PROTIP: This article is about A CONSOLE AND KINECT BUNDLE. No, they don't expect every person buying a kinect will also be buying a console, and nobody even came close to claiming they do, except you, because you are stupid and also illiterate.

The bundle which comes with the XBox360 Slim and Kinect does not come with the AC adaptor, which it doesn't need.

This is a non-issue. Would you purchase a "HD Bundle" of a console, with the HDMI cables, and then get pissed because it didn't come with an RF adaptor?

It's to coincide with the mediocre review they gave it last night. Although you might wanna look at other reviews & evaluate the true grade for yourself

it woundnt be microsoft without leaving somthing out of the box.

Tbh, I think you got a lot with the Premium model in the box. Headset, HD cables, and mine actually came with a media remote. My Wii and PS3 didn't come with shit. Just useless composite cables.

You don't need it, putting it in would just confuse people because it has no use.

But if it's bundled with the 360 S, it already has a dedicated USB port specifically to power Kinect, therefore, they don't need an AC cable.

You don't need this cable for the console that it is bundled with.
If you buy the Kinect on it's own, you get the cable.

This is the same company that didnt provide transfer cables with the bigger HDD console kits and then said that those consoles were intended for "NEW" customers, not ones looking to upgrade. Those looking to upgrade should buy the stand alone HDD.
