Next week, Rockin' Android will grace PSN with another of its localized Japanese indie games. However, instead of a shmup, this time the publisher has chosen Crescent Pale Mist, a magical-themed action-platformer developed by Classic Shikoukairo. Rockin' Android has worked with Sony Online Entertainment to spruce up the graphical effects for this ridiculously overblown-looking action game.
You can see the result for yourself after the break -- sorceress Yunou runs, jumps, and slashes at super-speed against swirling, explosive backdrops. There's really nothing "pale" about it! It'll be out Tuesday for $5.99.
@Darkpen Thanks for the reply, I thought this was a brand new game. I don't blame MS, I blame the people that pay the $15. You could ask for what ever amount you want, but if no one pays it, eventually you have to lower the price.
The weird thing about this is that it's rated for both the PS3 and the PSP by the ESRB. The same is also true for the previous Rockin' Android/Sony Online Entertainment doujin game release, the 3 titles in Gundemonium Collection. Yet, there is no PSP version of any of these games (not so far, anyway).
@killdash9 Okay, I can explain. Some games must be rated for PSP if they are specifically Remote Play-compatible. Gundemonium is among those, and I believe CPM is as well, although I have not personally checked if Remote Play works with it yet.
@SaraJLeen Are you sure that's the reason? I considered that possibility myself, but the PixelJunk games, which are Remote Play-compatible, are not PSP-rated by the ESRB.
Also, how would you check Remote Play for Crescent Pale Mist before it's even been released? :)
@SaraJLeen A-ha! I suspected as much. Still, though, I wonder why the PixelJunk games didn't have to be rated the same way. Lair is also Remote Play-compatible but has no PSP rating.
So there are no PSP-specific versions of Rockin' Android's games in the works at all? If not, that's, well, a little disappointing.
@SaraJLeen Will there be a PC CD-ROM release of CPM? I'm leaning toward that for Gundemonium Collection; the art book and OST (which I assume is on a separate audio CD) sound like nice bonuses.
It looks like the entire screen constantly gets covered in lots and lots of graphical effects. Meaning you can't see what you, or your enemies, are doing.
I seriously feel like I'm the single person on Earth who cares about being able to play games any more. When everyone else goes "oooh shiny", I think "how am I supposed to stay in perfect control of it when the screen is quite literally covered in stuff and your sprite is tiny?"
This also applies to the trend of putting things in the foreground in 2D games, so they block your sight.
You constantly see people complaining about the camera in 3D games, so why do they have a blind spot when it comes to horrible visibility in 2D games? As someone who has always liked 2D platformer/action games, it really is sad to see them be more about the spectacle than gameplay.
Watch as people will dismiss this because I DARE to not be mindlessly positive, even though I raise a perfectly valid point.
You KIND of raise a valid point. More often than not these games are previewed being played at their highest level. AKA, professional players. For example, watch some MvC2 videos between pros and tell me you know what the f is going on if you're new to the game. This is overwhelming, yes.
But you won't start out here. Very few of us will even achieve this. Instead, we'll see a much lighter version, play it, and either be happy or drunkingly stumble further down the rabbit hole. Once there, we'll chug the "drink me" bottle of awesome juice and grow to epic proportions. For someone who has consumed said awesome juice, everything shown here makes sense.
@Mehbah It's not really like that so much. The effects are pretty but you won't be having trouble seeing because of them unless you're stunlocked by a long, nasty attack from a boss. Still, eye candy like that makes the best show for the press, you know?
For a game which isn't a shmup, it's the first thing I thought of when I saw this post's image. Also what I thought for half of that allegedly non-shmup trailer
For that price I am definitely into the game. I wish more games came out at that price instead of $15. But the sales for these cheaper games are low compared to the $15 games.
Whoa whoa whoa whoa whoa. Holy, I'm buying that shit.
$6 Tuesday.
Damn, nice.
