I can play RB2 DLC in RB3 right? Sometimes this stuff confuses me.

@Jack Kevorkian RB2 songs don't feature keyboard or pro tracks. They're going to make you pay for to update those songs you already own (i.e. Living on a Prayer) if you want them.

@mellerad okay thanks. I'm down with that as long as I can still play the basic songs I payed for.

I might add that all your RB2 DLC actually do include Pro Drum tracks though, if that interests you at all. But yeah all your DLC works fine in RB3, it just doesn't have keyboards.

I dunno, I kinda imagine they would make you pay for keyboard parts on previous DLC... given that previous DLC had 0 keyboard charting in the first place.

Well, more likely situation is that you'll only get updated keyboard parts with pro guitar as part of the bundle, so in effect you're paying extra to get the full RB3 experience update--not just one instrument in particular.

If you already have the older versions, do they update to the new RB3 version with keys for free? Or do you have to repurchase them?

I think the 3 songs are gonna show up as separate tracks, and you'll likely have to repurchase them, since Harmonix hasn't stated otherwise

It's my understanding that you pay 99 cents if you want to update any of the previously released songs to include pro mode.

They are separate songs. They show up in the list separately, similar to how the masters and covers of songs both still show up and if you want to upgrade the song for Pro Guitar and Pro Bass, you have to purchase both the new version and the Pro upgrade.

So, if I already have "Livin' on a Prayer," I have to pay 2 bucks to download the RB3 version, and another buck to download the pro bass/guitar charts if I want to play pro guitar. That kinda sucks. If I've already got it, and have already paid $2 for it, I should be allowed to just pay the extra dollar for the pro charts.

Yes, that is correct. If you want to upgrade it to Pro Guitar and Pro Bass, you have to pay $3 total. The old content doesn't support the upgrades so they need to re-release it.

Hopefully this is just because they were on disc songs instead of DLC but we'll see in the future.

Guaranteed they won't update previously released songs to include new stuff, that would mean they make less money for more work, when they can just charge you $2 for a song that they did 30% extra work to get updated.

@sirgregmac It is actually 75% more work because they have to revisit each of those old tracks, dig back into the master and re-cut them to be properly functional with pro modes. The Keys tracks have to be separated where they were integrated with the guitar track or left in the background before. Each note has to have its own soundbyte, the vocal tracks need to be separated in order for pro vocals to track properly. The Pro Drums were already there to begin with, but the popular misconception that the extra dollar is for all Pro modes is false. The extra dollar is for guitar and bass only. Pro keys, drums, and vocals come in the $2 track.

@Troy Powers RB3 DLC is available for the same price and gets you Vocals/Harmonies, Drums/Pro Drums, Guitar, Bass & Keys/Pro Keys.

If you want Pro Guitar & Pro Bass, it's an extra $1 add-on to the songs that offer it.

Well, that doesn't make much sense. That would mean that they're releasing an entire greatest hits album, but only 3 of the 12 songs (the same 3 songs that have already been released previously) have pro bass/guitar. Why would they do that. And if these songs are for RB3 only (not compatible with RB2 or 1) why wouldn't they have pro bass/guitar?

I'm confused.

@Troy Powers Charting Pro Guitar/Bass takes as much time as charting every other part of the song combined. Thats why its an extra $1. As to why they don't work in RB2.... RB2 cant do harmonies and keyboards.

Green Day Rock Band songs do harmonies. They work in RB2. So, it seems that if Rock Band 2 can't do something that's included with the file, it just ignores it.

And I understand why it's an extra dollar. I just don't understand why that extra part is only included in 3 of the 12 songs included on the Bon Jovi greatest hits download. Unless that's an omission by Joystiq.

@Troy Powers There is an omission in that Runaway also has it available but not all of the songs do.

It's because Pro Guitar and Pro Bass take a lot of work to chart. Harmonix has said in many interviews that it takes as long to chart those as it does all of the rest of the instruments combined.

Okay I was confused, so some of them do have Pro mode, but they put asterisks at the end for some but before the parentheses for others and in both places for one. Formatting?

Still need more Talking Heads in this game, man.

This is one of the times I wish they went with a live version, though. Version of Burning Down the House off Stop Making Sense is so much more intense and has a lot more keyboard and singing in it

This will be the first part of the 30 odd track Bon Jovi greatest hits that was announced for RB about a month ago, so I'd guess 'Always' will be in the next batch.

Dang, I think you're right. Just read the original RB forum post and I think I misenterpreted it as meaning the entire album would come out over a couple of track packs rather than one 30 track mega download, rather than just a 'Best of the Best of'. So short answer, no Always...

Kind of whack having to rebuy 3 of those Bon Jovi tracks; If anything they should just charge $1/song for all the pro/extra stuff needed in those tracks.

I don't mind necessarily having to buy these 3 Bon Jovi tracks again, since they were on-disc tracks and updating them could get messier than if they were originally DLC.

But having duplicate tracks in my library? Is there anything HMX can do about that, because I'd hate to have "Livin' On A Prayer" come up twice in a random setlist.

But what's the in buying old DLC now if it has a chance to be re-released. Im someone who's purchased close to 1000 songs and the thought of re-buying is upsetting. Sure I don't have to do it but F* I already bought them and now I want harmonies or keys! Of course Harmoinox has stated this is due to thefact that there is no way to tell if you've purchased old dlc. Well... Why not delete the old version on Xbox servers and let me download that sucker or set up a hotline called 18004MYUPGRADE.
