Rumor: Interactive Mass Effect comic will fill in players of PS3 Mass Effect 2
88
The "seamless introduction" that will ease PS3 owners into the rich backstory of Mass Effect 2, first hinted at when the game was announced this past August, may have been uncovered recently in the BioWare Social Network forums. A moderator recently posted a quote from BioWare's Casey Hudson from the latest issue of German gaming mag Play3, in which he reveals the PS3 version of the game will have an interactive comic from Dark Horse, that lets players make the big decisions from the first game while quickly seeing how those decisions play out.
The forum post also claims that Hudson confirmed the PS3 version of the game will come with the game's three main expansions, "Kasumi's Stolen Memory," "Overlord" and "Lair of the Shadow Broker," and will include a voucher to download all the content currently available on the Cerberus network. Finally, the post quotes Hudson as saying the game will include an exclusive mission which clocks in at around six hours in length.
Sounds like a pretty tall order for the game's PS3 port. We've contacted BioWare to see if they'll comment on the post's legitimacy.

Choose your own adventure? That could work, but what I would've liked is a prelude mission of Miranda and Jacob picking up Shepard's Body, with Jacob being overawed at the idea of saving the most famous human ever and Miranda being all aloof because she's perfect or something, and making choices about what happens through Miranda's conversation.
...Expensive.

@Ethan I didn't really like Mass Effect 1 very much, I thought it was really over hyped and just never got into it... I only played about the first 10 hours before I got bored.
Because of this I still haven't played Mass Effect 2. Maybe with this new PS3 stuff it'll make me reconsider.

@Ethan I'm not sure if you read the Mass Effect comics, but it is Liara T'soni who recovers Shepard's body. So your mission with JAcob and Miranda would just be them taking the body from Liara and back to Cerberus for reconstruction.

If there was a way to transfer my ME1 save data from my PC game to my PS3, I would be instantly sold...

We're able to create Unreal Tournament 3 mods and maps on PC and transfer them to the PS3. Therefore, BioWare should allow PC save data of ME1 to be imported to the PS3.

Wow thats nice. Know what would have been even nicer? Mass Effect 1 on PS3.
I'm sure the masses will lap this up, OMG we're getting an exclusive mission and an interactive comic. Bioware is going above and beyond to make sure we can ease ourselves into the series. If they really gave a shet they'd give us a port of the first game. Until that happens i have 0 interest in playing this series.

It's not possible. Microsoft published the first one so you'll never see it on any other home console.
I think the way Bioware is handling it is just fine given the circumstances.

@michael000 Then don't play it, and miss out on quite frankly what I considered as the best exclusive series the 360 had. The first one is good, but the second one was awesome to say the least. I traded in my 360 version as soon as I heard the PS3 confirmation since I knew there was bound to be something extra, I just never imagined how much extra it would be.

You even acknowledge that Bioware is going above and beyond by making this interactive comic but you're still complaining that they don't "give a shet"?
Why the hell should they bother porting ME1? It's not like they are a charity. They probably don't think they can get enough sales for ME1 on PS3, especially since it has been on PC and the 360 for 2 or 3 years.

The only thing I got out of this post was this:
'Baw baw baw, I'm going to cry and bitch and complain because Bioware is making an effort to make us all happy, baw baw.'
The fact that Bioware is giving all this stuff in a single game, and even more so an interactive comic to introduce new players, is something that most developers would never do. Kudos to them, and I can't wait for this, as I have been playing ME1 on my crappy PC for much too long.

Seriously.
This is a huge effort on Bioware's part, and all PS3 owners who are invested in this concept of respecting the PS3 community should buy the dang game, new, and ensure this makes enough money that devs do not sign exclusivity deals with MS. We can vote with our dollars.
This is great. Some really loud nuts complain, regardless of console or news. It's endless and it's annoying.

That makes me slightly mad that they get all that stuff free, when I had to pay $60 just for the game on the 360, and didn't get all the DLC or any extra missions >.>

You do realize that the PS3 is getting the game a year later than when it debuted on the 360, right?
Why the hell should you be mad about that? Do you get mad when companies inevitably release "Game of the Year" editions that have all of the DLC included for free?

That's why Microsoft buying timed exlusivity never bothers me. Eventually you get the game, polished up with more content. That's worth waiting for, to me.
But, I can certainly see the appeal of simply having it first. =P

yes but PS3 ME2 will be full price.
If you had waited until the PS3 release to play ME2 you could buy the game for a bargain basement price on the 360 (It's under $30 now) and even if you bought all the DLC it would still work out cheaper.

Sometimes having it first can be both good & bad. It can be good because if it's something the MW2 map packs, then you will see that those maps aren't worth the money & you wouldn't even bother. but it can be bad because if it's something like Liberty City stories, that was really a great expansion to an ok game, then it would kind of suck to wait for it.

@loveassassin13 I don't really have a problem with them getting the DLC for free on the disc. That's what happens a year later and quite frankly, it wouldn't surprise me to see a new version released for the 360 at the same time with the additional content..
That said, I'm kind of annoyed at the idea of the PS3 version getting a bunch of exclusive content. If it's referring to the content that catches people up on the story, that's fine but I feel a little cheated as someone that has followed the franchise from the beginning through both the games (including that pretty terrible iPhone game) and the books if I at least can't have the option to buy the new content on the platform I already own the game on.

That seems fairly interesting at least. This might be worth at least a rent.

It really is worth much more than a rent. You're gonna be keeping this title for several months, so hopefully you're renting through gamefly, otherwise, its cheaper just to buy. Plus, it is always good to support developers of great games, and this is, without a doubt, a great game. I didn't play any of that additional content, so I'm debating purchasing this for ps3 when it releases. what i'm more concerned about is that i'm having some trouble justifying my 360 these days. mass effect 2 was the only exclusive that i have enjoyed for my 360 in the last year, and now its coming to ps3. i guess i will give alan wake a try, cuz i've heard some good things, but there's very little i'm looking forward to on my xbox, and for me, ps3 has much, much better exclusives.

Why am I being downvoted? Do people prefer interactive comics to actual games now?
Don't get me wrong, I think that how they're doing the interactive comic is good and how you get to make the choices from that carry over is great, but it's not going to be the same as playing through Mass Effect 1. I've played through ME1 and ME2 like 3 times each and I'll be picking up the PS3 version when it comes out too. I'm not hating on BioWare. I just wish ME1 was coming too.

Already been confirmed and cleared up with the Producer of the PS3 version, Jesse Houston.
http://social.bioware.com/forum/Mass-Effect/Mass-Effect-General-Discussion-NO-SPOILERS-ALLOWED/PS3-Exclusive-Content-Clarification--5188310-1.html
The 6 hour content thing refers to the combined additional playtime from the included DLC, not a new mission.

Certainly sounds like it'd fit the Dr Pepper stuff what with the "Recon Hood" and night vision "Umbra Visor" and all.
I imagine it'll come back round to 360 at some point once the promotion is closed worldwide (apparently it's still on in Canada) but, yeah, PS3 will probably get it as a DLC pack first.
Not that it affects me, I managed to pick them up when all you had to do was change the URL on the Dr. Pepper website >=)

Actually they only published the 360 version. The Windows version was published by EA.
This means that they could still release it on PS3 as there is likely no exclusivity agreement with Microsoft anymore.

@sonicspike41 PC isnt a competing platform in MS's eyes. thanks to the games for windows brand they effectively have TWO platforms. Even if a multiplatform game isnt GFW branded, it's still a PC title with no actual corporate connection to anyone that opposes MS's publishing deal.

I hope the "exclusive mission" mission ends up like the preorder DLC and will later be released for the PC. I want to squeeze every bit out of the Mass Effect universe, hell I even got the 3 books Bioware released.
