Flying Hamster takes off on PS3 & PSP December 7
10
The Flying Hamster is undoubtedly one of the cutest Minis available on the PlayStation Network, and one of the few that are worthwhile to play on the PS3, in addition to the PSP. We've written quite a bit about this indie shmup, and it finally has a North American release date and price: December 7, for $5.99. The game is already available on the European PlayStation Store.
For the uninitiated, The Flying Hamster plays like almost any other shmup: collect power-ups, and shoot at enemies using either a rapid or charge shot. What makes it so unique is its collection of power-ups and enemies: you can spit a stream of beer at cows, for example. Or launch a swarm of bees at ninja squirrels. Or drop some egg bombs on some evil toaster robots. Seriously.

I have enjoyed quite a few minis. Monsters Stole My Princess, Fieldrunners, and Monopoly to name a few.

This would make for a sweet DS game.

@Chazzr Please read a bit more carefully if you're going to be dismissive. I already mentioned it was available in Europe. This is regarding the North American release.

Today is a good day for US PS3 stg fans. A release date for Flying Hamster and an announcement for Crescent Pale Mist. I'm horrible at stg, but they're so much fun. Both of them are definitely on my "to get asap" list.

@SystemPatch
If you're a shooting game fan, you need to get Ace Armstrong vs. the Alien Scumbags!, which is also a Mini. It's one of the hardest side-scrolling shooters I've ever played; I still haven't beaten the first stage boss in the Expert mode (making it even harder than arcade Gradius III's first stage!), and it took a good while to do it even in Rookie mode. However, the game is set to become easier come November 16th, when the patch is released in the US (already out in EU). The controls are getting tweaked, and continues are going to be included, among other changes. So, if you want the game to make you cry, better get it soon.

I've got an idea on how to make this shmup we're working on stand out, but it's gonna get ugly.
