I really like the Move hardware - comfortable, precise, and feels durable. But Sony, you need to give me some more hardcore Move software - Sports Champions is fun for a time, and The Shoot (while entertaining) is too short... we need more!

@Fallow Are you getting SingStar Dance? I just passed by GameStop and there was a huge line for it! I didn't expect that many people to get it. Heck i didn't even think it would have a midnight launch.

I don't think Move is a failure as in Sony is the failure to get it out there. You don't need 500 million dollars on an ad campaign but you do need some promotions. That one Subway promo just isn't going to cut it.

Yeah, I bought it and the launch line-up was decent, although, I also kind of need some follow-up to keep me going. :|

That being said, Sorcery. Awesome. Heroes on the Move should also be a fun little game.

I was trying to synthesize the more or less whole feeling of the add, perhaps I choose the wrong words. I mean Move is great, owner right here, but these numbers are pretty bad to brag about them.

Seriously though, those numbers don't mean anything. I intend to purchase an airplane with a racetrack inside someday.

I want to know how many households have them. Not how many say they're going to buy them. People lie too much.

@MystileArmor - A lot of people apparently, but only in Europe. It's beginning to look even more convenient that the NPD reports don't come with hard numbers anymore, and a lack of actual sales data for Move makes me a bit worried about how it is actually doing.

I have this feeling that I'm going to wake up in a week or two and hear that Kinect has sold two or three million units. I don't have a horse in the Move/Kinect drama, but even I will be amazed when Grandma is doing the hustle on Dance Central come Christmas because of the marketing blitz.

If you're not dropping 500 million on an ad campaign, you should probably get creative.

@Ezio Auditore da Firenze Maybe they should, instead of using the Microsoft tactic from two years ago. Which was blitz everyone with ad sheets.

Sony doesn't have an ounce of creativity in them as a corporation.

Seriously, Sony isn't creative? That statement, with a particular focus on adds, flies in the face of every damn ad campaign they've ever done. Honestly, I think they let their add campaigns get just a little bit TOO creative. Everything from horrifying mechanical babies, dystopian fascism, five minute short films with full blown music numbers... I mean, c'mon? Lack of creativity? I'd be willing to bet that everyone has a personal favorite Sony campaign. Mine, for example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c5bTaDUsxHQ

All that said, and I still haven't mentioned a little known fake VP of Everything.

@Haizeus And Sony stole every last one of those marketing ideas from . . . guess who . . . you guessed right if you guessed SEGA.

Maybe some of you are too young to remember Saturn and Dreamcast . . . or maybe, the marketing for either was usually so horrendous, that none of you even cared about Saturn or Dreamcast. But if you go down the history of SEGA ads for Dreamcast, but especially for Saturn, you will find a remarkable correlation between ads for those old consoles, and the ads Sony has "creatively" put together for PS3.

So sadly, even in marketing, Ellimem's original statement still rings too true, "Sony doesn't have an ounce of creativity in them as a corporation."

You know what I don't get. Why on Earth would Sony marketing in 2006 - 2009, copy SEGA's marketing from 1995 - 2000. I mean, as much as I love both the Saturn and the Dreamcast, it is not exactly like any of that marketing ever did SEGA any favors, who at the time was getting their ass handed to them by Sony. So why would anyone, use a proven losing marketing strategy, to market their own product? You really know you seriously have burned through your only two creative brain cells when you resort to using losing strategies to market your product with. Now they have shifted from using SEGA's former losing strategies to promote PS3, to using Microsoft's former losing strategies to promote Move.

Will the irony never cease? "This is bad comedy."

Sony does love giving us statistics.

I think telling us that our parents use this device just as much as we do doesn't really make me want to run out an buy one.

@Starcade

The thing is none of these stats say that the parents are using it.

First of all the 1 million figure they are touting is SHIPPED, not sold. Theres loads of stuff in there like "purchase intent" and "intend to purchase".

In theory i will be in that bracket as at some point i intend to purchase, but not going to be for a while.

This is amazing marketing really, as its a lot of smoke and mirrors and relying on people misreading the stats (which a lot of people and gaming sites are doing)

Sony's definitely lost a lot of ground this generation but I kind of think of Microsoft as the fat kid. Their parents have too much money and they keep spending it on the kid, and you don't really like the kid, but you hang out with him because you get lots of stuff for free from their parents.

Lots of ways you can spin a fat kid story depending on which console you want to flame. :)

Sony has done too much damage to its image in North America to compete with Microsoft at this point. Kinect seems to have the casual market hypnotized with its innovation and big-name support and children still eat up Nintendo products. Now they expect to compete in the mobile phone/gaming market with the Apple powerhouse iPhone? Microsoft has already beat them to that, which sill suck up a considerable amount of the "hardcore" audience they'll certainly be targetting. The rest of which, along with children, will be completely dominated by the 3DS.

I just don't see how Sony can win this battle and become as relevant as they were in the Playstation 2 era.

You're right on the money. The Playstation brand is still very strong, but it still owes almost all of its strength to the success of the PS2. PS3 ended up being effective, but Sony seems to have trouble going toe-to-toe with Microsoft. Also, I have no vested interest in them, but can't help but think that a lot of their business decisions just seem bizarre. Who's at the helm? I'm assuming its not the same leadership as during the PS1/PS2 times.

After trying both of them out, I'm more keen on Move than Kinect, in terms of implementation. There are only a couple of games out right now that I'm interested in for the Move (Sly, the upcoming No More Heroes HD), though, and none for Kinect so I'm going to need to see more before I shell out the cash for either.
