InstantAction, an Oregon-based web gaming and digital distribution platform, will cease operations. Gamasutra confirmed the closure, which was announced on the the company's Torque game engine site.
Director of InstantAction's Torque game engine operations Eric Preisz posted the company's statement: "Today, InstantAction informed employees that it will be winding down operations. While we are shutting down the InstantAction.com website and Instant Jam game, Torquepowered.com will continue to operate while InstantAction explores opportunities with potential buyers for Torque. We thank all of our past and current customers for their support."
The company had made several smaller games, like Instant Jam and Monkey Island, available to play using its browser-based tech. The tech's eventual promise was to make large games playable almost instantly through a browser or full screen as the title was progressively downloaded to the user's PC.

Aww that sucks... can't say I didn't see it coming. The revenue model was hard to pull off.

Doe this mean that Fallen Empire: Legions will never be back?

Several community members have the source code for Legions and have been working on a stand-alone client. IA was going to announce this today, but instead announced their closure.
The future of Legions isn't really known right now. Work could still continue on Legions if the company decides not to sell the IP and just give it to the community.

This sucks real bad... I was really considering buying Torque X towards the end of the month, now I guess I'm stuck with learning Unity...

I had a copy of the TGE back in the day. I never really learned how to use it like I should have, but I still have fond memories of mucking with it. Ah well.

That's disappointing, I actually put a bit of money into that. MarbleBlast Online was great, as was Fallen Empire: Legions.

Wait, does this have to do with Gaikai? If it doesn't, then I don't really care. If it does, then I am disappoint.

@ILT2
I was wondering if you knew what that game was based off of and where do I go to play it for free?

@Fixious Is there going to be a way to play InstantJam? I really enjoy it and I really want to be able to play it. Any way of being able to play it without instantaction?

That sucks, I visited that site a few times to play Fallen Empire: Legions, and thought it was pretty cool. It wasn't quite quenching my Tribes thirst, but it was a little close. Hopefully they decide to put that game back together and sell it on Steam or XBLA/PSN or something.

Bummer, Fallen Empire: Legions was lots of fun for a browser game. But maybe I won’t care anymore after I see what Tribes Universe is like.

Lame, this saddens me. Not only because a buddy of mine works there, but I was also hoping that they would bring back the original Tribes to the browser. Guess my only hope now is for the Tribes "MMO" that's planned for the future :(
