Microsoft just wants to keep giving me reasons not to buy the Kinect. Thanks, I really didn't need to spend that $150 anyways.

I don't know if I call a camera device that collects information on you a 'non-issue'. Seems pretty reasonable to be wary of it.

Yeah the idea makes me wary. I see massive fallout if it were to be used this way and I hope he was just talking in hypotheticals. Otherwise, I for one say no f'ing way and will return the thing.

@Nikkinik

I see that you do not yet appreciate the intricate mechanics of the Kinect Privacy Shroud. Suffice it to say that, once properly utilized, the Kinect Privacy Shroud will allow your actions to be unnoticed by the optical cameras of Kinect. However, it does not prevent the transmission of air pressure waves to the microphone array employed by Kinect, so additional preventative measures must be taken. The Kinect Privacy Soundproof Booth is the more expensive, albeit easier to implement, alternative.

It starts with targeted advertising and ends with arrests for illicit behavior. Question why you want an internet connected camera that you can't control in your home, i.e. why would you invite Big Brother in your house?

I like that people actually believe Microsoft is hanging out watching peep show videos of people. I think someone needs to explain how collecting data for ad targeting works for these folks.

@mrmojoz Right, but they'd have that capability. Once the camera is allowed to be turned on for something like that, there's no stopping them. I can see this stuff being used in stores, when you go outside you give up your anonymity, and you're probably on camera anyway, but in your home... well that a bit 1984, eh?
