This reminds me of the TF2 statues (even though the Heavy is the only one out) and it makes me wish they weren't so ridiculously expensive :(

And these looks pretty nice too. I wonder if they'll only offer them in orange...

@Ospov

I'm very tempted to get the Assassin, but would be even more so if she was a Iceman rather than a Hotshot.

So let me get this straight. They are taking an online budget title, and making statues that cost 5 times what the game does, and they expect people to buy it?

Even the TF2 statues are overpriced, the company who makes them (not Valve) charges $250 a piece for them.

For them to make expensive little statues based on a game that probably won't even have any servers up in two years time, and expect to make any real money off them, is insane.

@Drakkenfyre I guarantee you they will make money. These are good quality 9 inch figurines - just by that virtue alone they won't be cheap. Add on to that a pretty popular game at this point in time and to be honest, $70 seems only mildly overpriced. If I was into that game and into figurines I'd probably consider buying one of them, and if they were more like $50 I'd definitely snag'em.

@Drakkenfyre

They're first run of these figurines were sold at PAX.

They sold out by day 2.

These are great, high quality ~225mm statuettes, something that I would expect to cost anywhere up to $200 for any other title.

Of course they sold out at PAX. It's a video game con, and it is a video game collectible. They could have been $250 a piece, and they would have sold out.

But for the long-tem? I don't see these selling well. Yes, they are well-made, but the limited appeal of a one-console-only downloadable game that will probably die out in the next two years, doesn't bode well for them making a ton of cash with it.

If you like the game, and the statues, great. Will they make the company millions? Unlikely.

"But for the long-tem? I don't see these selling well."

I think you have a misconception about the collector's figure market. There is no long term. You make a few thousand, sell them, and move on. The prices are higher than for "normal" toy figures partly because of higher quality but also partly because of the much smaller runs.

For comparison, these prices are about on par with those of 1/8-scale anime figures.

In the right part of town, I could find someone to dress up as a PitGirl for less than $69.99. And probably do more than just stand there to boot...

@elko84

And you should. Two years from now you'll hate yourself for that. You know, when you haven't played the game for 20 months and really wish you had $160...

@ZForce915

If how long its been since you last played a game is a measurement of how much you like a game, then I guess Fable 3 is my favourite game of all time and Super Mario RPG is one of my least favourite games.

Yep. Makes sense. Pure logic here.

Man, if I worked in a cubicle I'd be VERY tempted to get one of these. I love me some MNC.

What's this whole "Two-year" statute of limitations on enjoying a game? I'm assuming anyone who's trashing folks who want to buy one of these statues either didn't play or didn't like Monday Night Combat in the first place.

Personally, I think MNC is awesome and the characters are equally great. I'd love to buy that Assassin one as that's my main, but I don't have the money right now. I've been addicted to the game for 3 months now and I don't see it slowing down anytime soon. These figures deserve to be bought as much as any Final Fantasy or Halo figure out there, but I'd actually like to have one of these more because they're much more unique.

I am not trashing anyone who wants to buy them. I said if you like the game, and want to buy them, fine.

My point is I don't see the company breaking even on these on the long-run. Of course each one is sold for more than the cost to make them, but unless they custom make these suckers each time one is ordered, I don't see them becoming a big hit and selling enuf to cover the cost of the company to manufacturer them.

The two year thing stems from the fact that in two years this game probably won't even work anymore. Game developers have notoriously short online plans, Look at some of the bigger-name retail games out there, a few years later and their servers are empty, and sometimes shut down. And a game that is downloadable-only and isn't on any other consoles isn't likely to be transferred over to the next Microsoft system. Even if the developer doesn't drop multiplayer support before the next system, it certainly isn't going to port it over.

You're joking, right?

Okay, let me put it this way: remember when Epic was all about their fans and actually cared about putting out a game that people loved, rather than their next paycheck? Yeah, thats pretty much where Uber is at now. Not saying Epic is bad or anything, I just think their ego is a bit larger than it should be these days.

Epic had a shitload of games before they became the "Pc who?" console-sucking GOW-only thing they are now.

This is one company. Maybe they will keep supporting it, but something tells me they won't.

You look at some of the big-name games that are out now. There are games by EA and Activision where the online lobbies are deserted. And every once in awhile they post up a list of servers they are shutting.

Unless this game gets ported to other systems, I don't see it surviving the eventual death of the XBox360.
