I remember when I got this game on CD-ROM! It was the first ever game I owned on a CD-ROM.

I was too scared to play it alone though.

Justin, you are a fan of FMV games huh?
Did you ever play A Fork in the Tale?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Fork_in_the_Tale

Seriously, a Phantasmagoria remake would be cool.

Thank you so much for this article Justin! 7th Guest was mesmerizing to me as a young man. My friends and played the crap out of it and I am hopeful for another entry in the series. Good idea for an article!

This was one of the most anticipated games of my childhood. I'd be them happy to see them do well with this.

I would much rather see this game come out on GOG and Steam.

@macnbc You can buy the game for $1 or so on eBay usually, and it runs flawlessly on ScummVM. You don't really need to wait for it to be on GoG or Steam.

As a kid, that painting on the staircase with the hands reaching for you scared me shitless.

I used to play this game on my Philips CD-I player alllll the time, never once beat it, I was too young to comprehend some of the puzzles and what to do/where to go.

But I loved it all the same, good news is good.

I had this game a very long time ago. Isn't it about a crazy toy maker?

Then there was The 11th Hour.

I just remember the theme song:

"You can't take a step, without seeing Mr. Death"

@Enosoma

I also remember... wasn't the 7th Guest supposed to be on the Nintendo Ultra 64?

I have the guide for the sequel (the 11th hour) but i have never played the game. whats up with that? Appears to be from a library. Last take out date being aug 8th 1996. Thats quite a while ago. I'd hate to be the one to pay those late fees. It's a really cool guide though. its got the whole script written in it.

Sadly i have no device capable of playing this...

Awesome stuff... I love the old FMVs myself. Wish they would also go to the PSP too though.

Would also love to see some of my old SegaCD favorites... Sewer Shark, Night Trap, etc...

I loved 7th guest, and definitely buying this day one (for iPad).!!!

I remember as soon as I got a CDROM drive I ran out and bought Myst and 7th Guest. Played Myst first, one time, until I got stuck. Then played 7th Guest and never went back. I couldn't believe how much more I enjoyed it (compared to myst).

I never finished 11th Hour, and didn't dig the FMVs as much (preferred the quick juicyness of the 7thGuest's little vignettes to the long plodding "story arc" approach in 11th).

As long as they don't cheap out on the port (like, with shitty controls), i'll buy 11th, and whatever they make next.

When I was a kid I dreamed of one day working for a place like Trilobyte. So this news is kinda like hearing Orson Welles has returned from the dead and plans to make more movies.

I loved this game as a kid.

Maybe I'm just dumb, but that can puzzle in the kitchen cupboard has to be one of the hardest word puzzles I've ever played in a video game.

@peteace As soon as you figure out this puzzle, you immediately become a better Scrabble player. Always helps to have a full sentence of Y words burned into your brain.

I'm a recovering FMV addict. Even so, I'd love to see re-releases of Digital Pictures' games, such as Night Trap, Double Switch, and Corpse Killer.

And who can forget the "classic" FMV games on the PlayStation, Fox Hunt and Psychic Detective? I would buy PSN versions of those. Then I'd have to check myself back into FMV rehab.

"McHenry is well aware there's been well over a decade for the Trilobyte name to slip from player's minds"

Make no mistake, sir, Trilobyte has never left this player's mind for a second. It took me 8 days to get the 11th Hour to run on my antique Windows 3.1 PC, and it was worth every second.

7th Guest and 11th Hour were great... but will they also be porting Clandestiny?

While it wasn't live action, or even really horror-based, it was actually a pretty fun game.

FMVs are great. 7th Guest and 11th Hour were definitely my favs, but does any remember Night Trap for Sega CD? Now there's a game a young boy can enjoy. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Night_Trap

The 7th Guest is in my top 3 games. It still scares me to this day, although it's funnier now than it was when I was a kid.
I love FMV games in general. I was a youngster when FMV games were popular so I guess I grew up thinking that that was the future of video games. It sort of SET THE BAR for me what the future of videogames were going to be, since 3D was also just getting big but I just happened to see FMV games more in my own house (probably because we owned a 3DO).

Having said all of this, I just now actually read this article and oh my god 7th Guest on the iPhone this is a must buy for me. I've already got it on my Wiz so it's not like I don't have it portable but my iPod Touch is something I've always got on me whereas I don't always have my Wiz with me. I agree that these platforms would be really good for this genre of game. Put Night Trap on the iPhone so I can die happy.

Oh, man can't wait for this to come out. I loved FMV Adventure games. I played 7th guest, 11th hour, phantasmagoria, the Gabriel Kinght one, Pandora's box... Those were games that showed off the power of the CD-Rom... and looked amazing at the time. Although I think if we compare the voice acting of that time with today's, they must sound pitiful..
I wonder if they made one of these with today's game budget's if they would get considerable better, It is a long shot, but it would be amazing.
