Atomic Games still wants to finish Six Days in Fallujah
29
The saga of Six Days in Fallujah hasn't completely ended yet -- Atomic Games' Peter Tamte admits that the game isn't actually finished (no duh), but tells VG247 that "what we need is the funding to complete it." While showing off the company's new downloadable shooter, Breach, to journalists in London, Tamte said that publishers just aren't willing to commit to telling stories like the ones told in Six Days, and that's resulting in falling industry sales. "It should be clear to them," Tamte says, "that the path we are on right now is taking us downhill. And yet when I have conversations with publishers, I still get the message back – 'No, we pretty much want to keep doing what we're doing.'"
Atomic is trying to counteract that with Breach, a full-scale military shooter that's being sold for a DLC price, designed "to disrupt the way games are priced and to create an environment where original content can flourish." Breach isn't Six Days remade -- rather, it's a re-use of the engine that Atomic developed, along with some tries at strong innovation in terms of destructible environments and cover. And it sounds like Tamte hopes that Breach will make finishing and publishing Six Days possible again. Sounds good, but of course let's get one game out there before we start promising two -- Breach is scheduled for release sometime next year.

I hadn't heard of Breach. I was really dissapointed when 6DiF lost Konami as it's publisher. I would love to play an hyper-realistic FPS. Making a big game for a small price worked for Battlefield 1943 so hopefully it works for Breach. I'm excited.

I'm really hoping Breach succeeds - not because I'm all that intrigued by the gameplay (looks a bit by-the-numbers, maybe the engine will make it better than it presently seems) - so then they can get some $$ to finish Six Days and find a publisher with enough balls. I think a lot of people would be interested in playing a hyper-realistic Iraq sim that stays true to the actual events and pays respect for the lives lost and those who survived - all while actually maintaining fun gameplay. It could be an utter failure or a huge step in the "Games are Art" argument.

Why not do something creative and stop trying to make a bound to fail (commercially) military shooter?

Presumably because they're more interested in their vision than in making money?

Perhaps you should read more than headlines before you start talking smack about things you clearly haven't informed yourself about.
I'm not even interested in military shooters, and I've read enough to know that it's not (supposed to be) like other military shooters. Definitely NOT a "super soldier" treatment.

I believe this game is a TPS and I was excited for it for that reason. Here's to hoping one or both of these games make it to market eventually.

Easy fix, get the Taliban or Iran to finance it!

Go ahead Sony. Pick this developer up. Make it an exclusive, and build a solid relationship with the developer. I assure you, if you purchase the rights to this game, and market it properly, I PROMISE YOU! It will sell like you'd never even imagined. All the brightest gems are hiding under the heaviest rocks. And hey, it gives you one more exclusive and Microsoft one less. This is going to be a good deal. Publishers strangely don't see the impact this game will have. I don't think they'll realize what they're missing out on. This game, will sell like nobody even knows. Its one of those games that will blow peoples minds after all the negative talk. Trust me. If I had my own gaming platform, or I could fund it, I would. Crack the jokes you want about the Taliban or whatever, but when its on the PS3 and your precious Xbox LIVE is without it, you're going to greatly regret it. You have no idea.

I want to play 6DiF, there, i will buy a copy, confirmed. I think the concept is awesome, i have seen worse movies dealing with current events that i would like to see a game company take a wack at it.

Hopefully they are taking the extra time to get Breach to PS3.
