At least it scored better than the Kinect equivalent. Not that that's saying much for either game.

Bummer. Let's hope that the Fight Night guys will step up and do something amazing with this tech.

@PreGHz Seriously though... how is it so hard to make a fighting game using motion controls? It doesn't make any sense. The boxing parts of the Wii games are actually pretty fun, and the Wii's actual sensor tech is much simple than the Move or Kinect and yet they do it fine for the most part.

Why put the fighting in third person if you are moving off of the player's motion? That's why these games stink. The entire concept is unintuitive.

@PreGHz Yeah, seems like BUTTONS hasn't helped this game be any better than it's button-less counterpart on Kinect. Someone ought to update Kevin Butler on that situation.

At least Fighters Uncaged has the excuse of being a 3rd party cash-in by Ubisoft, who seems content with doing a lot of 3rd party cash-ins this gen. But Lights Out was supposed to be a 1st party, premier title for the Move from Sony. What the hell happened? You mean they could not delay it until they got the play mechanics on it working perfectly?

Sad shame, really. Two promising fighting games on next-gen motion controllers, and Wii Punch Out still kicks both of there asses hands down.

@Tachyonic Cargo

So because there's a game that's similar to a Kinect game, and they both suck, buttons aren't important in motion controls now?

Wow, your logic knows no bounds!

I really wanted to make that joke, didn't know if it was in poor taste. Guess we'll find out!

"Listen to him complain about the weather in Grand Rapids, MI on Twitter."

What does he say? "Man it's a hot one, like seven inches from the midday sun."

Just an FYI - I'm Rob, the writer in question here.

I was kinda hoping we would have made it more than 2 comments before the inevitable MB20 jokes started popping up, but it's also been 10+ years that I've been dealing with them, so I'm kinda thick skinned at this point.

And sorry - racing games aren't my deal, so I won't be doing Gran Turismo 5, but I'm not adverse to doing a review in song form in the future ;)

Still, thanks for the comments guys!

It's not a perfect game, but I am having a lot of fun with it. My experience with the game was surprisingly a lot more pleasant than I was expecting based on these reviews.

I feel the same way! :) It's been a lot of fun for me so far.

I wonder if some of the initial options might make for a worse impression for some reviewers. I haven't had any problems with the calibration whatsoever, and I do move around a little bit, except for the couple times I tried head tracking. I think head tracking really messes it up most of the time. I also made sure to put a lot into speed initially and didn't worry about health stats, so maybe that makes it feel more accurate to me?

A good alternative is to just go out and punch people...

(Also, a bit off topic here, but I'm trying to respond to people in the ongoing Activision article, but 'stiq flat out refuses to post my comments, instead throwing #thankYou on the end of my URL after it finally refreshes... Why?)

Punching real people is too analogue and not in 3D.

Just a hypothetical answer., but maybe Activision bought Joystiq to dismantle it.

Sadly... this review pretty much sums that game up, I was expecting more... It's a shame really coz it had a lot going for it, it just failed. I was trying to beat people up, but i actually couldn't, coz nothing happened when I hit my opponent. I am sure after you keep hitting your opponent for a while, it eventually actually gives up on counting any of your hits, it's really quite annoying and stupid actually.

Joystiq needs engadgets system.....DESPERATELY, I want to edit posts and delete. They have toned it up since, but it's still heavily flawed, if there is even the slightest server or internet problem, it goes insane and posts 3 instead of one, or doesnt post at all.

But hey, at least we can view articles with videos embedded in any browser, now! I do agree, it'd be rad if they also implemented the disqus system like Engadget.

Also, on topic; I pre-ordered this when I bought my move controllers and have been holding on to it for a week to see what the review said because the last preview before this said it looked good and improved, but I guess they didn't do any more work on it after that... I had high hopes for it, but now I'm going to have to mail it back for a refund, damn. :\

Because my understanding of Amazon's return policy is that you can't return it and get all your money back if you remove the shrink wrapping...
It's a bit hard to get the disc out w/o removing that, ha!

I'm pretty dissopointed, it's not as if they had a particularly high target to reach, all they really had to do was make it more enjoyable and realistic then Wii Boxing, simple enough considering Wii boxing does my head in when it doesnt do what I want it to.

Ah well, first attempt, I hope Sony learns from this and shapes it up. See this, people, is why games shouldn't be in a hurry to add motion controls, no matter what the 'possibilities' are. Tekken with sloppy motion controls is not a Tekken worth buying >_

@Dirty For once, an over-generalization is completely true and I have proof. I used to be a game journalist for 10 years and for 7 of those years I was out of shape. And pretty much, so was EVERYONE else. E3 was like a casting call for "The Biggest Loser" except it wouldn't have just been about the weight problems. I have never met such a group of opinionated a-holes...and I have teenagers!

I guess the standard for motion-sensing boxing is very, very low.

Here's hoping EA sits down an seriously develops an enjoyable and functional motion-sensing interface for their next Fight Night. Otherwise I think everyone should stick to their normal controllers.
