I've always found the Layton games' puzzles to be simple and straightforward - it's Phoenix Wright that requires you to be a psychic

Apols, but more than anything else, this just doesn't sound very fun.

I question this review. I loved the game and it felt like a real nice relaxation ride. The review quality from Joystiq has really started to go down hill.

This is gonna be one of those games that's not for everyone, i played it and hated it, felt it was boring, music just wasn't all that great, for the most part i agree with the review but would have scored lower. So it's not that joystiq reviews have gone down in my opinion but that they are reviewing games based on the experience they had.

which is what we want. we want to know about their experience, and decide weather or not we want to share that experience.

From these comments, it sounds like Pixeljunk Eden all over again. People either love it, or just don't care for it. No inbetween. And it sounds like the people who don't like it just don't understand the point.

I played the demo, and once I was done with it, I felt no need whatsoever to play the full game. It sounded interesting, but was just no fun in its execution. The graphics look pretty cool, though.

That's what I'm thinking. From my experience with the game I would have compared this more with PJ Eden.

I'm sure your self-important review made you feel real smart and now everyone knows how high-minded your are. Not every game needs to be a metaphor. Some games are simply an experience. Something tells me you wouldn't care for Osmos either, another relaxing, "zen game."

I played the demo, I was sold. I bought the game and now going for 100% completion. This review is non sense... you basically say its lacking in story .... witch I don't see the use for a story in this game anyway. If you say all that you say in the review is that you didn't GET the game. I'm not saying it's a 5/5 but more of a 3.5/5. Nice Visuals, music keeps momentum the this game. Controls lack for the mouse but only switch for a game pad and it's fixed. Some puzzle issues here and there but still is a solid RELAXING and EASY game to just unwind after a stressful day.

I Iike CoD games, I'm a big SC 2 player as well and I still could find enjoyment in this game. It's a really big change of pace of what you normally see on XBLA, PSN(out in early 2011) or PC. You can't say it lack story to it or a point to it because it's just simply not a game that needs an explanation. I get how people could wave this off or just not get into it, but I will never say it's bad. It's good at what it delivers and that is a relaxing game that was very nice visuals, soothing sounds and simple puzzle that won't let you scream at the TV wondering why this is so difficult.

he's not saying that not having a story is a bad thing, he is simply informing people.

I enjoyed this game (playing the trial). While it isn't something I will buy myself, it is perfect for kids. It's just plain relaxing, and the "pretty" graphics made it far more interesting to stare at than just about every game I have played lately. Most games lately have sucked in the fun department, so at-least this game was visually enjoyable on an interactive screensaver level.

"Yeah, man. That sure sounds relaxing. So why is it that Artech's new downloadable game The UnderGarden leaves me feeling listless, bored and vaguely irritated?"

After reading that I knew since I tested the demo that this was just not a type of game the reviewer did want to like. And a perfect example on why people should not take every reviews some people do out there so serius....its just 1 persons opinion.

You should especialy not take this review serius when the reviewer writes something like that for a game like this. Its just hillarius....

"Where Flower felt tightly focused and almost revelatory in the way it told a wordless story of loss, creation and life, The UnderGarden appears content to wander. Players simply float around the game's levels, solve some simple physics-based puzzles, grow some plants and ... that's it."

That's funny. My description of Flower goes something like this: "Players simply float around the game's levels, solve some simple "bump into stuff" puzzles, grow some plants and...that's it." Reading you say "almost revelatory" made me laugh. Sir, if you can pull some creativity out of your butt on behalf of Flower, certainly you can afford the same for Undergarden?

I'm glad Flower seems to have provoked your thoughts...but that probably happened before you even played the game. You probably read the premise and thought it was lovely sounding. The game itself is just snake in 3D. Maybe the Undergarden people just need to add some profundity to their product description, and you will be all set.
