Look, it's likely that Bungie's next game is going to be a casual, monster-collecting/kart-racing/trivia/MMA fighting game. Don't you want to get in on that -- on the ground floor? You could be among the first to try Bungie's upcoming, unannounced opus by signing up to become a "Bungie Beta Tester" on the studio's forums. Enlisting in this manner makes you eligible to participate in playtests, surveys and -- as the title suggests -- alpha and beta tests, but Bungie notes, "Not all who enlist will be selected."
Signing up for a chance to participate in a beta test for a game that hasn't even been announced yet may sound kinda odd, but it's a much saner idea than becoming a "Bungee Beta Tester," which is better suited for crash test dummies and other human-shaped things.

That's one way to avoid paying a QA team.

@jynxycat Minus the fact that activation keeps firing their QA staff.

More than likely this will be a multiplayer network stress test and a way for them to collect real world play data for balancing akin to what we've previously seen with Halo 3 and Halo: Reach. This isn't a replacement for a QA team, that's just absurd.

It's part of Bobby Kotick's master plan to begin charging people to beta test a game so that the beta testers ultimately end up funding the development of the game and when it releases he makes more profit

@Xcrucio Obviously I'm not on the dev team but don't you think it's a bit early for beta testers? We have no announcement for anything, they just completed Reach and where is the alpha?
Seems far too odd to me they are looking for beta now.
My 2 cents

Kotick owns 0% of Bungie.
I'm not sure why people are complaining, I actually like beta-testing awesome free games.

What Saint said, plus it doesn't hurt to actually start building up a stable of testers before a game is released, not the first time its ever happened. The fact they are looking for testers already seems to point that they are probably close to announcing something about this game at least.

Am I the only one excited to see what Bungie can build besides Halo?

I'm pumped!
Bungie finished this new "unreleased" project's engine before Halo Reach was released, so they're already full speed ahead to get this out next year.

@danomak Heck no, I'm excited as well. I'd love for it to be a non shooter but that's doubtful given bungies history.

Sweet hoping I get picked for one. I've never purchased a game that I have been in a beta for though.

Bungie has made RTS & Shooters. Shooters being the one that made them famous (Marathon & Halo) I think if Bungie is smart, they'll stick with what they're good at & build upon that. A shooter is what Bungie fans like. Hardcore Bungie fans will buy anything they put out. Bungie will stay with their shooter stage until they gain enough ground to start something new. I mean people who want s Bungie game on a PS3 want something like Halo on a PS3 so if Bungie doesn't want to regret developing for PS3 then they would stick to their big guns.

Um. i just wanna add i think Halo is o.k and i think is over hyped....
and if they made a PS3 game i like to see them do something non-halo and if they can make something besides a FPS that's really good then i think Bungie's the real deal. but too me they are just a group of people who made a game that alot of people love and worship. i'm not in that crowed so really .... Bungie is a o.k studio but i wanna see something new from them.

@HardBoiled2009 I agree with you, loved the first halo, and it was all down hill from there for me. I played up till 3, skipped odts and stopped in the middle of reach. But I fear the ps3 will make their weakness apparent. Really hope they can score another block buster.

I would love to get in on this, but I am sure that once I find out it's not a "monster-collecting/kart-racing/trivia/MMA fighting game" I'm going to be seriously let down.
In all seriousness, I'd love to see them make something other than an FPS right now.
