Sony Ericsson Chief Executive Bert Nordberg must have just come back from holiday on Glib (it's one of Greek Islands), because he expertly delivered one of the most urbane quotes on the PlayStation Phone to date. In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, the executive said on the subject of the device, "There's a lot of smoke, and I tell you there must be a fire somewhere." Perhaps it's in the R&D building.
As if channeling Monty Python's "Nudge Nudge, Wink Wink" sketch, Nordberg gave another interesting answer when asked why the company's phone division hadn't tapped into Sony's gaming resources before. "I haven't dug into that history, but the future might be brighter."
The PlayStation Phone, which the WSJ speculates will carry Sony Ericsson's Xperia brand, is still a phantom, existing in "read between the lines" executive comments and leaks that allegedly showcase the prototype.
@Acosta02 I think any info at all, even if false, gets the hype train moving big time. If a picture was leaked of a PSP lighting someones cigarette no one would believe it but everyone would be talking about it. This leads to potential sales to the average consumer that isn't as "in the know" as we normally are on this blog.
My point is - I don't think it would be a wise business decision to keep too many secrets.
It might just be in between or may in fact be a facet of PSP2.
I say that because it looks like the apparent prototype of PSP2 and it has two analogue touch pads (sticks) of which the original PSP lacks, which means it's doing more then the original PSP.
No point putting two pads if the original PSP only uses 1.
Obviously they arent just going to come out and admit it, after all it is supposed to be a secret and was never meant to be leaked in the first place, the last thing they want is people making expectations before the device is released, otherwise there is no hype. What Sony should be doing is the Apple game, announce news and have it ready to release a week afterwards, nobody expects things until the last second, by then, there is no opportunity to have expectations, you just cave in to the explosion of hype.
So is this to the PSP2 what the iPod touch is to the iPhone? If so, that's pretty sweet. I hope it's unlocked though. Or at the very least available for AT&T so I can get it.
A psp phone would be cool but I'm locked into my phone for another year and a half. I'm more interested in a psp 2 ... that will be a day 1 but only if it supports trophies. A psp with trophies and full psn features like friends list and messaging would be awesome.
I hope it'll be aviable unlocked so I can transfer my cashcard from my old phone. (it's called cashcard, right?) anyway I think SONY has more or less confirmed the existence of this console/phone/multimedia platform.
