Hardcore mode coming to Minecraft, the world ends when you die
34
Some madman over at PC Gamer has been trying out something called the "Minecraft Experiment," in which player death results in the immediate deletion of the world he or she has been working so hard to spruce up. The game's creator, Markus Persson recently posted on his blog that the feature series has inspired him to include a similar "Hardcore" mode in the game, where the world will be destroyed and reset every time the player gets killed by a Creeper, skeleton, gravity or any of the other deadly forces present in the game.
Look, we have a hard enough time rationalizing the remarkable amounts of time we put into this game already. To play a mode where, with one missed jump, entire weeks of our lives are erased, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind-style? That's straight-up masochism, dudes.

I endorse this just as much as I am incredibly afraid of it.
Which is very much.

Ha ha, that PC Mag article is a freakin' hoot to read.
Sucks that now I have to make myself try hardcore mode just to say I played it.

This might actually help me a lot. I tend to get bored during the night and try to fight monsters, with varying degrees of success. Monsters are far more terrifying when they can literally kill your world.
But then again, I play on peaceful, what do I know.

Hardcore modes make all survival type games way better. Diablo 2, the original AvP, etc. It just makes every close call an adrenaline rush, and every minor achievement a major victory.

The problem with hardcore mode in Diablo 2, the slightest bit of lag, and you didn't know that enemy who was 20 feet from you is now in your face, eating your face off, killing you. That, and people coming in with hacks, and killing you.
The original AvP was sadistic enuf. "Hey, we're not going to let you save but three times on normal, and not at all on the hardest difficulty level."

You should be able to build a giant hamster ball that you roll around in so nothing can ever kill you. That would make hardcore mode pretty easy.

Who cares? All you do in this game is build pixels and hide in them from monster pixels. Takes no skill. I'm gonna play cod now :)

as someone who compulsively builds new worlds and loses interest when things become too static, this sounds awesome. Honestly, the first 3 days in Minecraft are the most fun anyway, trying to rapidly scout, stock and survive in a new world is more fun for me than building an elaborate house or grinding for some Red Iron that I never use.

To be honest, I still don't really understand the point of playing on a difficulty with ANY danger present (that is, anything that's not Peaceful) when there's practically no reward besides the fear of randomly getting jacked from behind by random monsters.
