Tepig. Snivy. Oshawott. Sure, these three gibberish words don't mean anything to your brain right now, but learn them well -- they're the English names of the new starters in Pokémon Black and White, as revealed by the game's recently launched, official North American website. You don't want to be left behind when these guys become part of our cultural vocabulary, much like Squirtle, Charmander, and the grass one which nobody ever picked. (Just kidding, Bulbasaur. We cool, we cool.)
There's a few other details about the new environment of Unova, and the two new playable trainers as well. There's also a section about the two endgame legendary 'mons, Reshiram and Zekrom -- who will also be making their debut as floats in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade. Which should be ... well, terrifying. Look at them! Can you imagine those things, forty stories tall, floating down the streets of New York City? We liked that scenario better when it was called Cloverfield, and was, you know, not a real thing that happened.

@DjiegoMoz - Considering Tepig had his own meme - with that snide-ass look on his face - you wouldn't be too far off in saying Ocelot...err...OshKosh...er...Washington...damn it...Oshawott (finally) will have some kind of page on Know Your Meme.

I liked "Smugleaf" better. Some part of me honestly believed Nintendo would catch the fandom's hint and make that his official name. Ah well, I know what I'm nicknaming him when I get this game.

Seriously, what is tepig? Tepid Pig? I don't get it. Maybe it'll make more sense when they reveal the evolution's names.

Wow. I'll be taking the grass starter for the first time.
He's a snide bit of ivy. I like that.
The Pig is tepid.
Oshawott is the only one that isn't really... words. Like "osha" sounds kinda like ocean and "wott" sounds like otter and water. But it's not as "in your face" with the literal meanings, like the other two.
Unova, tho? Makes me think of an ovary. *vomit*

@speeddemon92 Crap. which means its evolution will likely be something like Warmhog. Or Swinerupt
If it is any consolation, the evolutionary forms of these guys look badass. Snivy evolves into what can only be described as a grass based gyarados.
But honest to xenu I am sick and tired of the fire fighting type combo. NINTENDO: THERE ARE OTHER TYPES!. Give me fire poison, or fire bug, or fire psychic.
Generally G5 pokemon start out looking really stupid, but alto fo them evolve into somehting badass. Oh and the mole pokemon is a reference to a little known toho film.
And one pokemon is based off kamen rider.

Unova sounds worse than Isshu.
This is the first time they renamed an entire region though so they must of thought strongly about the....issue. I guess.

Well, there are so far two credible theories of why Oshawott was name that way.
1.- The name was based on Oshawa, an eastern city in Canada.
2.- A person named 'Oshawa', who was born in a poor samurai family.
Sound good to this one, but still, this one dislikes that the water Pokemon (which is actually this one's favorite starter this gen, regardless of its tier placement) was given a name so absurd...

was it that uncommon to pick bulbasaur as your starter pokemon, back in the day? i always picked him (i played through pokemon blue twice and red once) and thought he was the most versatile guy out of the 3 available (and the one who most resembled my favorite dinosaur, ankylosaurus).
