Although Wahlberg never specifically says he'll play the role of Nathan Drake, it was strongly implied by the actor when he said that Russell wants to cast Joe Pesci as his uncle and Robert De Niro as his father. Wahlberg says the movie is not going to be a "watered-down version, that's for sure." After all, with so many actors who can expertly deliver an f-bomb, it would be a shame if the T-rated game doesn't become an R-rated spectacle. Check out the MTV interview after the break.
Uncharted movie to star Mark Wahlberg

Mark Wahlberg has confirmed in an MTV interview that he expects to star in the Uncharted film. The actor, who also starred in ill-fated film-to-game adaptation Max Payne, says director David O. Russell (who he had previously worked with on Three Kings and The Fighter) plans to start shooting next summer. This, of course, means the geek-approved casting of Nathan Fillion in the role of Nathan Drake is out.

Hmm...I'd rather see Nathan Fillion in the role, but Wahlberg could be okay.

@GordLacey That's what I thought when he was cast as Max Payne. It's a lie.

@TasticBycrom Ah, it's a different movie, with a different writer and director. Remember the suckage that was "Johnny Mnemonic," and then how great "The Matrix" was? Keanu Reeves was in both. Sure, he's done some bad movies, but he's done some good movies as well. For the record, I'm not someone that goes out to see a Mark Wahlberg movie because he's in it, but I'm not going to skip a movie he's in because he's done some bad movies in the past. I'm just happy that M. Night Shyamalan isn't directing... now there's someone that would make me skip the movie completely. Wahlberg isn't the best choice, but he's also not the worst one either.

To be fair, Keanu's acting didn't make or break the movie. The plot and effects of the original Matrix is what made it popular. Keanu plays the same character in every movie he's in... except Bill and Ted's.

@MarkezJM When my wife and I were watching Johnny Mnenomic in the theater we got about 15 minutes in to it, and then both looked at each other and said simultaneously, "You ready?" and we left. His acting was so incredibly bad in that movie and he's not good to begin with. How did you stand it?

Marky Mark was sweet in The Departed. I enjoyed him in Four Brothers. He was not sweet in every other film he's been in. Since Uncharted is just an Indiana Jones homage, the actor playing Drake is key. Bad charisma and the movie is doomed.

He had a chance with Max Payne. I don't know how he messed that up, but he did. Not looking forward to him doing the same to another one of my favorite franchises...

Oh well. I'm actually a lot happier that Wahlberg actually decided to pass on playing The Crow in a reboot of that series. Yes, I'm serious. It was close.
