Sony announced this week that BBC America programming is heading to PlayStation 3's across the United States. To kick off the new partnership, BBC America has made the first episode of the American version of "Top Gear" available at no charge (normally $1.99 for SD, $2.99 for HD), at least for the first two weeks. "Doctor Who" and "Being Human" will join "Top Gear" on the network's launch list at some point in December, and BBC America promises to "rapidly add BBC programming each week, including the best of the BBC's library as well as currently airing series."
As you've likely already guessed, the BBC's offerings can be found in the video section of the PlayStation Store starting right now.

The American version of Top Gear is so horrible.
And I hope they get Merlin up there at some point, what a great show.

I don't know about Merlin, but the Stig is what's important.

I wonder why they haven't put the UK version of Top Gear on? Probably because Clarkson is slagging off Yanks again. Still they need love for the Hamster and Captain Slow.
Hope they get the inbetweeners on there and Luther soon. Really enjoyed those.

Yes, I can finally get a copy of that documentary "My big boobs and Me" about the women with terribly large naturals and play it in slow-mo, constantly!

Whenever I hear the words "American remake" and "BBC" together in the same sentence I get brutal flashbacks of the US series of Cracker. Oh god, make it stop

There are plenty of terrible remakes of American TV shows in the world as well. Don't kid yourself.

Why would people pay for TV shows when you can get them on the Internet for free?
Ah well, at least keep paying so you support them so I have shows to watch.

Sony needs a major overhaul of the pricing for its downloadable shows.
When I can go in to the store and buy a TV show's season for roughly $20-$35 and the same content is $40-50 via download, there's a problem with the business model.

@Raffi256 No competition. They're pulling BBC programs from Netflix on December 1st.

Not likely. If you're referring to the streaming expiration dates on Netflix, those can (and do) change depending on when contracts get renewed. The BBC stuff is a good example because those have "expired" twice already yet are still on the service. There are also several Dr Who specials with expiration dates well into 2011.
So unless you've got some inside info, or got some statement somewhere from the BBC that they're done with Netflix, I think they'll be sticking around (though they might disappear for a couple days as contracts get renegotiated)

@Faenix
Just one example: Burn Notice Season 2
16 episodes.
On PSN $31.84 ($1.99 per episode).
On DVD $27.99 ($1.75 per episode).
I think they have House on the PSN, right? Those seasons are around 24 episodes long and the DVDs usually run for around $35. On PSN that would be nearly $50.
So .. again I say Sony needs to price their digital content a little more competitively.

Only saw one ep so far of the UK version, but I like it 1 million times more than the LA version. I like Skeet Ulrich, but damn that show is irratating to me.
UK feels more like the original Law & Order, which was a phenomenal show that I miss. Of course, nothing tops SVU :)

@ChillyWilly Ironically, Law and Order UK practically IS the original Law and Order. Apparently the UK episodes are the original L&O episodes retooled for the UK justice system.

I honestly couldn't name a single show on this network. British entertainment just doesn't do it for me. My friends give me weird faces because I don't like Monty Python. So hopefully Conan actually turns out to be British so that the world will make sense to me.
