YouTube user Yankeyan recently showed off one of the cleverest Kinect hacks we've seen to date: He's managed to use the motion-sensing gadget to control Super Mario Bros. 1 - 3 on an NES emulator. Well, he kind of controls it. We've never seen anyone work so hard to grab that first mushroom before.

Let's see him do it without a controller on Castlevania. I thought it was impressive on the dance pad, but this will be a whole new level of power, and confidence.

But...the future of gaming!
Pretending to run/jump in place, how can you resist that?
Really though, I'm anticipating the simulated reality future as much as anyone else. But until they find a way so that you can actually, you know, move, rather than just waggle your arms to control this motion stuff, it won't work at all.
Unless you think games where you stay in a virtual living room and can't move outside it are good. Because that's the only stuff you could accurately play using Kinect/Move/Wii right now.

@Cleric go to http://www.kinecthacks.net/
They have made object recognition, robots that move around that can see you and follow your commands, and even 3d scanning...
So I wouldn't call this lame. It's amazing technology and it's amazing all the new things they are figuring out that they could do with it.

Haha. I was just thinking something along those lines.
"Hell, I'm more interested in the stuff the hackers are doing than the games that are being released for it."

Although it doesn't work too well, developers who can make running and jumping in a game (precisely) in a side scroller would be pretty awesome

For a prototype at what he's doing, this is actually pretty sweet. I mean, One can always trust in the people with interesting ideas to make things a little more fun for the remainder of gamers.

I'm a softie for retro gaming, but this video does nothing to increase my interest in Kinect. You can have my controller when you pry it from my cold, dead hands!

This looks like a 2 year old playing it. It's got to be the kinect, that's the target audience. Also, this looks alot more fun than that uncaged fighting game.

You can't teach an old game new control schemes.

I was actually thinking the very same thing about the term "hacker." Why this guy is downvoted is slightly ridiculous. Yes, language flows like a river and we can change definitions as they suit us, but that is no reason to start using words outside of their meaning. This misuse of language by writers is what led many to think "akimbo" means "dual-wielding."
Believe it or not, I have two better terms to refer to the people who write software for the Kinect: "Programmer" and "Developer"
