Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Vietnam hid its "winter 2010" launch date so cleverly in the brush that we're not sure if it can even find it now. It turns out that Russian intelligence (from 32bita) may be able to give us some intel on the game. Sure, it's not a release date, but some spy has posted all the weapons and vehicles that can be found in the multiplayer expansion.
Fair warning: it's spoilery. As in: these are the guns you'll get. Granted, there are many guns like them, but these are the ones that will be yours.
@Usr666 I've heard rumors that Vietnam will be coming out on the 14th of December and others saying it'll come out on the 21st (for PC anyway). Also, the update for Map Pack 7 is supposedly coming out tomorrow with the maps being unlocked on December 7th.
@Aerospeed Because there's been a stream of Vietnam games coming out. This is only the second game in the last 10 years that I can think of that's used "Vietnam" in the title.
@salmoriarty Never mind Tunnel Rats, Viet Cong, Battle Field Vietnam (not this one), Conflict Vietnam, Line of Sight: Vietnam, Shell Shock, Shell Shock 2, Men of Valor, Vietcong 2, Elite Warriros: Vietnam, and the Rambo game. All that I could think of off the top of my head.
@Aerospeed agreed, we are running out of time periods to base our shooters on. Soon people are going to have to REALLY use their imagination to develop a believable modern shooter.
No call of duty, or medal of honor used WWII in the title either. I agree that Vietnam is the new WWII, I think we will see a lot more games coming out based in that era.
What about less used guns like the AK-74? For some reason the 5.45mm assault rifle variant of the AK-74 is almost never in games, despite the AK-74U being in like all of them. Considering that the AK-74 has been the standard issue rifle of the Soviet/Russian army for the last 40 years or so, you'd think it would be in at least ONE game.
I have never played games in languages other than English, so seeing it was new to me: I thought it was interesting that all the menu/game text was in Russian, but it still says Battlefield BC2 Vietnam in English on the upper left of the background.
I probably should have guessed it from the small amount of new weapons to be released, but the lack of variety may get to me or others. But $15-$20 for an actual expansion to a game instead of just maps? Don't even have to think about that
for some strange reason i couldn't get into COD (just didn't see what the hype was about) but when i played Bad Company i played the whole campaign with out realizing it. So im getting Bad Company 2 Vietnam.
I have 1200 points ready to use on this expansion, but it better come out soon because I have a tendency to spend my points. Of-course that wouldn't be a problem if I received my 800 points from October's Gamesfest promotion. I should have listened to that guy that said on these Joystiq comments that he never received his points from the promotion before the one I went in.
Gah, I have to choose between the flaws of COD, like shitty spawns, stupidly small maps, and teleport knifes, or the flaws of Bad Company, like low framerate, clunky controls and sub-par hit detection.
...or I could wait for Battlefield 3 and hope that it has none of those flaws. As long as its not Frostbite engine, it has a chance!
@Invigilator I take It you are talking about the console version. bc2 on my pc is one of the most graphically impressive games there is. runs at a solid 75fps. oh yeah, hit detection has gotten much better since the patch
with map pack 7 and this expansion im seriously considering buying this game again... traded it in after 150+ hours. the c4 spamming rly annoyed me, and now they patched that too. i just hate to buy games twice, such a waste.
Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Vietnam will add four new multiplayer maps, as well as 15 new weapons and six vehicles, all congruous with the new 1960s locale and Bad Company 2's universal experience point system. Among other era-specific items, you'll gain access to the M79 grenade launcher, the Navy SEAL XM22 machine gun, the American Huey helicopter and the Russian T54 tank.
The DLC, which requires the Bad Company 2 game disc, will retain the game's universal experience points and add ten new Achievements and Trophies.
