If you ever load up the Netflix app on your PS3 and suddenly feel as if you're being experimented upon, here's why: Netflix is reportedly showing off three different user interfaces to users of its service on the PlayStation 3, in order to test out the various recommendations systems and how they're both created and delivered to users. Chief Product Officer Neil Hunt says the "Play" and "Add to Queue" buttons' size, placement, and functionality can vary from build to build, and even things like load times and streaming start times are being adjusted among the various test UIs running on real-life PS3s, providing direct feedback to the company about how customers use the video streaming app.
Hunt says he can boil down what they're learning to just three words: "Simple trumps complete." We'll make it easy for you, Netflix. Make one simple UI for all of us to use.

It would be cool if you could customize the UI in some way.

For the record, "simple" had better never mean "present users only with their queue and don't let them search."

I hope Netflix/Sony have them all available to use eventually so people can decide which interface they want to use.

Crikey, I absolutely only clicked "Submit" once. Honest.

They always do crap like this...I had a friend who had the search function on his Netflix Disc months before it was made standard. Another friend has a video preview box on his interface, and I prefer his layout...Yet always seem to be stuck with mine! I hate the feeling that I am being shafted out of features that I know other people are getting for paying the same as I do.
On a side note...Open up Netflix and wait until you can move through Menus! Then press Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, Up, Up, Up, Up...BAM! There you have it, lots of technical information about your version including which UI build you are on!
I wonder if customer service has some way of changing it!

I had the video preview thing, called "video browser" or something like that when the discless version first launched. It was cool but crashed the PS3 constantly, it was unusable for me until I got the version without it. Hopefully they are working on a more stable version but the last build was crap and the people bitching about not having it were only missing out on having to hard reset their ps3 every 10 minutes.

Beta test it... with your entire user base! Genius. I'm not even being sarcastic here.

Yeah, that's the idea.

Mine is the same as shown in the photo above and it blows. It actually seems less responsive than the Java based one on the old disc.
Can't they just copy the Xbox version, or is that tied to the Newer Xbox Experience layout?

They need to make it the same as the 360's UI. I've been using the PS3 for Netflix on occasion, and the current one is horrid. I love the way the 360's is organized, plus the titles don't constantly have to load on the 360 for me when scrolling.

I thought the interface was pretty good but as a Canuck, the selection wasn't even worth the paltry $8 per month once I watched everything I wanted to see. There are movies on there that were filmed directly to DVD, and I mean, literally burned right to the disk while it was being filmed. The main menu never changed for the entire month I had the service and I was expecting updates like on PSN and XBL, but sadly no. I did forget to watch MegaShark vs Giant Octopus, which I regret. I mean, I'm getting married in two months and....HOLY SHIT!

After using both the PS3 and the 360 versions I greatly prefer the 360s, though the PS3s isn't necessarily bad in any way.

Why is it, when the things been on the 360 all this time, are they just now getting around to experimenting, and then just with the PS3 version?

I wondered why the Netflis Watch Instantly app was being so unresponsive lately.

I would really like to have multiple queues so that you can keep things somewhat organized instead of one with 500 movies and tv shows. seriously this needs to be done

This sucks. I just found this out last night at my friends house. He has a better UI version of Netflix than I do! His menus were smoother, more responsive, and showed more titles than mine. Damnit!

I wish they'd bring back the little HD icons when browsing the titles. this is my only complaint since the redesign, which has vastly improved upon the original clunky mess.
