A Best Buy employee and Sony spokesperson Kevin Butler (both of which shall henceforth colloquially referred to as "Best Butler") recently appeared an a new PS3 ad announcing a pretty sound deal for you 3D-seekers out there. The retailer is currently offering a trio of bundles featuring Bravia HDTVs and 160GB PlayStation 3s, equipped with Gran Turismo 5 and Grown Ups on Blu-ray. Two of these bundles feature televisions that are 3D-ready, while all of the bundles knock over $1,100 off the combined prices of the products therein. That's not bad for a retailer that isn't, you know, Amazon.
Click past the jump to see what the three bundles offer, and to see the ever-giggle-inducing Best Butler shill his employer's wares.
Sony 46" Class LED-LCD HDTV (model: KDL-46NX800) and PlayStation 3 Package -- $1,299, down from $2,679 (includes Gran Turismo 5 and Grown Ups on Blu-ray)
Sony 46" Class 3D-Ready LED-LCD HDTV (model: KDL-46HX800) and PlayStation 3 Package -- $1,699, down from $2,879 (includes Gran Turismo 5 and Grown Ups on Blu-ray)
Sony 55" Class 3D-Ready LED-LCD HDTV (model: KDL-55HX800) and PlayStation 3 Package -- $2,199, down from $3,579 (includes Gran Turismo 5 and Grown Ups on Blu-ray)
Don't seem like bad deals, but I would be tempted to take the Grown Ups Blu-Ray and beat someone to death with it just so I could have an excuse for actually owning it.
@Limit3d Even though I have a 42" plasma and a 80GB PS3 I still want this....but being unemployed on the cusp on my 30th birthday....I could only dream
@Hoops Bought it June 2008, so more like 2 1/2 years ago. Yeah it sucks, but I got a crap-load of entertainment out of that machine. And when my girlfriend moved in the usage of it practically doubled.
I packed it up and put it away. When I get another TV eventually I'll get it repaired and use it as a media device with some light gaming.
Same here. Just died about 3 weeks ago. I would like to get it fixed since it plays nearly all of my PS2 games, but i don't put much faith in it staying alive for long after.
Uh, erm, not to be a killjoy, but the 55" can be had for around $1900-2000; toss in a PS3 that's worth, what, $300? You're saving more like $100, not $1300...
haha Thanks for the TV lesson, @Dustin F... TVs can be of differing qualityWHHHUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU??? :P That specific model of TV is available for $1900. Do a quick search on Pricegrabber for any of the models listed. Not one of them is selling for anything even remotely like the "listed price" in the Sorny ad. It's a warm deal at best; you're certainly not saving over $1000...
@drchristopher. Sux your system died on you. I still run my launch day ps3 I got. It runs like it's right out of the box new. I had three 360's go bad then I gave up.
Uhhh.....I'm pretty sure $1000 deals beats most everything. I'd sure love to make this my present to my better half but It would likely be way too transparent.
Good lord, people! Do a search on Pricegrabber for the TV model numbers listed in the ad before you go spewing all over the place about how great a deal this is!
@JetEngineJesus It IS a good deal. Best Buy sells the KDL-55hx800 for 2199 by itself. The Alice In Wonderland 3D with 2 pairs of glasses are around 300-400, a 160GB PS3 is about 250, and GT5 is 60. Sounds like a decent deal to me...I looked everywhere. NOBODY can touch this deal.
@imjason You can get a 160Gb PS3 bundle at BB that includes ModNation Racers, LittleBigPlanet and "Cars" on Blu-Ray (arguably a better bundle than GT5 and "Grown Ups") for $299. The KDL-55HX800 can be found at a ton of retailers for around $1900. That's a pretty far cry from the $3975 they claim. "This Is It" and "Bolt 3D" are kinda "meh", but you're right, the 3D starter kit does make it a pretty good deal...
I just picked up this bundle over the weekend. For 2200 + tax I got the KDL-HX800, 3D Starter Kit w/ Alice In Wonderland + 2 3D Glasses, 160GB PS3, Grown Ups Blu Ray, Gran Turismo 5...then when you register your TV, you get This Is It 3D and Bolt 3D on Blu Ray in the mail as well. Too good of a deal to pass up, and just in time. My 6.5 year old Sony 42" plasma is starting to die.
