Deus Ex: Human Revolution 'Augmented Edition' and pre-order packs revealed

Square Enix has announced pre-order bonuses and an "Augmented Edition" for Deus Ex: Human Revolution. The Augmented Edition is "augmented" with a 40-page artbook; a bonus DVD with trailers, trailer storyboards, a making-of featurette, and the soundtrack; a motion comic; and, of course, a fancy box to hold it all. It will be released at a $69.99 price point for Xbox 360 and PS3, and $59.99 for PC.

The two pre-order bonus packs each contain a selection of new in-game weapons, all with impressive-sounding names. The GameStop-exclusive "Explosive Mission Pack" comes with a mission featuring "a special cameo appearance of original Deus Ex character," along with the Linebacker G-87 Grenade Launcher and the M-28 Utility Remote-Detonated Explosive Device (yes, "UR-DED"), while the "Tactical Enhancement Pack" offered at unspecified "participating retailers" includes the Longsword Whisperhead Suppressed Extreme Range Sniper Rifle and the Huntsman Silverback Double-Barrel Shotgun. Both include "extra credits for augmentations and upgrades."

Suppression and "extreme range" are mutually exclusive. Once a bullet breaks the sound barrier, it creates a sonic boom that cannot be made silent. If it is in fact suppressed, then the rifle would have a significantly lower range.

@s1l3n70n3 Hold up, but if the bullet breaks the sound barrier doesn't it mean it's travelling faster than sound, hence it'll hit the target before the target hears the shot.

I think you have that wrong. If you base the score on the original, it's going to be a 10/10.

I'm as big a fan as Deus Ex as the next guy, but that just doesn't seam like it's worth an extra 10 bucks for me. I remember a time when you'd get that level of extras for free when you pre-order the game, now they've just monetized the pre-order incentives.

I wasn't 100% sure I wanted this game, but after that trailer, I am convinced that I need it.

I'm gonna get this game if only for the art direction. The style is so... um... stylish.

Don't listen to this ass. The art direction looks top notch, and that's one of the main reasons I'm looking forward to it, as well. It just screams of Blade Runner/Ghost in the Shell.

It does look sweet, but I hope the whole game isn't just black and gold.

Variety is always the best way to go. So few games use the whole color palette: Mass Effect and Mirror's Edge are the two that come to mind for amazing color variety.

One of the few mega editions I'm interested in.

$10 extra for the book is fine with me. Good deal, and better than the typical $80+ we've been seeing for CE editions.

I really want this to live up to the first game. But I'm not betting on it. Is there a release date for this?

I'll just get the standard, use one of my 20 dollar off coupons from kmart, and use my discount and get for $21 and some change, like I do for most games.

Alpha Protocol felt like a very cool spiritual (in gameplay and stats only) successor to Deus Ex 1, bugs and all haha.

I'm so glad that we're actually getting a sequel that looks like it will be fairly faithful to the original.

I'm just wincing at all the console kids who will be crying about the 'complicated inventory screen'. God damn, I hope this is a success. Soundtrack sounds bananas too. Probably will get augmented edition.

This is great, usually CE's will go for around an extra $20 - $90 depending on the game.

I find the extra $10 to be more legitimate than what EA has been doing recently with games like Dragon Age 2, where the limited only comes from pre-ordering before January something....

Is it actually possible for me to just walk into a store on release day and actually get a full game on the disc nowerdays or do they assume everyone goes to one shop and has online access to download the day 1 patch and in box dlc?

Good to see a special edition adds only a reasonable 10$ to the price. May actually pick it up.
