Japanese publisher Enterbrain has revealed in this week's Famitsu that New Super Mario Bros. Wii has gone quadruple platinum in the region. NSMBW is Nintendo's first game on the console to achieve that status, having sold 4,001,276 copies as of Sunday. The title will celebrate its one-year anniversary on the market on December 3.
Nintendo financial documents reveal that NSMBW had reached global sales of 16.7 million units by the end of September. That's like, if you're being strictly mathematical about it, nearly triple-quintuple-plus-double platinum.

It's a shame it was nowhere near as good as the DS version.

...and this just in, roughly 4 million Japanese Wii owners no longer have friends.

Im torn on this title because its such fun title with great level design.
But on the other hand, it was such a cash in with little to no effort on Nintendo's part. I can't keep encouraging Nintendo to make games with zero production values, minimum artistic design, AND no online component!
BUT I ALSO WANT TO PLAY MARIO ;-;

@Pandaman
The reason that Nintendo's games, even when technologically backward, are good is precisely because they put a lot of design and polish work into games that 'require little to no effort'. If another company made a game like that, they'd think 'oh it's just a 2d platformer, we can do it for cheap'. They would indeed use little to no effort, and their game wouldn't sell sixteen million copies or even get 87 metacritic.
I haven't got it either, but that's specifically just because I kind of feel like I've played the game already (and also I don't play video games with friends so the multiplayer is no value to me) - not because I don't think Nintendo put enough work into it. If I wanted to play another 2D Mario platformer, I wouldn't hesitate for a moment.

I don't know, I enjoyed it, but to me the Galaxy games were much better in gameplay, mechanics, concept, power-ups (maybe), graphics, music and basically everything else :)

Good game but should have allowed me to pick from something other than stupid ass Toads after Mario and Luigi were picked.

And here I thought the game would be a simple, cheap cash-in by Nintendo. Good thing I was wrong, and good thing it's selling so well. Keep 2D alive!!!

I have the DS version, and it's freakin' amazing!
But I haven't had a DS since 2007... 2006 was a good year, for games.

I'd love a sequel. Still one of the most fun games to play with a friend or two. Although it'd be nice if you could clip through other players. Some levels aren't even possible unless one or two people go into the bubble.
That said, I'd still take another NSMB over another Galaxy any day of the week. I'm apparently the only person on earth who didn't really enjoy Galaxy, but I've accepted that.
