As I wasn't fast enough yesterday to find the free codes hidden in the alt text for Bungie's preview images, I'll definitely be buying these tonight.

Bungie stated in an update a couple weeks ago:
"In addition to letting you discover DLC seamlessly incorporated into existing playlists, we’re also going to roll out a DLC-only experience. This DLC-only playlist will be available on November 30th. It’s a combination of all three DLC maps featuring two teams of 5-6 players each. In this playlist you’ll find a variety of multiplayer gametypes, pretty much everything except Infection and Invasion. In addition to the DLC-only playlist and the integration of DLC maps into our existing playlists, it’s worthwhile to note that you won’t be required to have DLC to continue using our existing playlists."
As of now I'm still waiting for the playlists but it's understandable since their fondling - I mean... editing - Arena playlists. Even though I haven't played them in matchmaking yet I've got a grin slapped on my face just being able to Forge on new terrain.
See you guys out on the field. I'll be the one trying to kill Brett; that damn seagull on Tempest...

Some of these achievements are pretty awful - 'personally capture all the flags in a game of stockpile', and it's worth an odd amount of GS? ugh

Or just play the game because it's fun and just get the achievement when it happens. You're bound to if you play enough.
Unless you HAVE to have those points. In that case, go ahead and boost, but is the game even fun anymore?

Dilemma. Buy the maps now, even though none of my friends intend to purchase them (cheap bastards!) or wait til the inevitable price drop within the next 3-6 months...

@Axcalibur $10 is pretty cheap. I don't think they'll have a price drop for these. You might be waiting for quite a while.

@Comic Book Guy
They'll drop the price sometime after the next map pack comes out probably, though not right away. As far as your dilema goes - it really comes down to how much of your game time is spent on Halo. If it's your first go to game & where you spend most of your time, the map packs are ALWAYS worth it. If it's one of several games your currently playing & you just put it in for a change of pace, I'd hold out for a bit.
My $0.02.

$10 for maps. As a life-long PC gamer who has love for all gaming systems ... paying for maps is ridiculous.
Oh well, I guess it's good for the economy!

@HaloisthemostOverratedGameEver Why is it ridiculous? Do you imagine making the maps came at no cost to the developers? THey didn't have to write the code and debug it? If/when there are glitches, you won't expect them to fix those? That stuff costs money, I don't see a problem in paying for services performed.

I'm with you Hoops. People don't understand the economics behind this. This is a business, and they aren't in it to fullfill your every wish. They're in it to make cash. And Bungie has invested a considerable amount of money to support this game and make DLC, and so Bungie has to make that money back otherwise they would go bankrupt.

@Hoops ... Valve releases free DLC all of the time- they are hardly going out of business. Paid for DLC is a console money maker... putting out a few maps for $10 is a rip off. Oh well, not like I play console FPS anyway...
P.S.
Don't mean to troll- just don't like seeing (what I believe) is console gamers being ripped off on paying for maps ... whereas PC gamers have always enjoyed free mods and maps that ship with games.

Well Valve is probably the worst example you could possibly use to backup your argument since Valve never needs to release another game ever... and they will still make fountains of cash out of Steam. Yes, Valve's not going out of business anytime (ever) soon, but they can afford to spend money making DLC and releasing it for free.
If the maps are of top quality such as the Noble Map pack, then I have absolutely no problem paying 10 bucks to add so much to my gameplay experience. Not to mention the hundreds of custom maps I'll be downloading from Tempest.

So have you picked up the (H3) Mythic Map Pack yet now that it's THE SAME PRICE AS WHEN IT LAUNCHED?

You didn't answer the question.
I never asked WHY you would purchase the map pack now; surely whether or not you purchase it is your own choice!
I asked whether you had picked up the Mythic Map Pack since it hasn't dropped in price. I'm going to go ahead and assume (given your snarky reply) that you haven't picked it up. That is the point I was trying to make.
You shouldn't assume the DLC will drop in price, because it's probably not going to. It irritates me to death when people use a scapegoat excuse for not doing/purchasing something, rather then just sharing their true feeling.
If you don't want to buy this DLC, it's not because you are just going to "wait for 6 months then buy it", but FAR, FAR more likely you just don't feel like it's worth it to you. You don't get as much enjoyment out of Halo, or these new maps as other people who are buying them... therefore they aren't worth $10 to you!
Simple as that...

Last I checked ODST was still $20.
So no, it's not "a lot cheaper."
It's not even cheaper, in fact that's twice as expensive as buying the Map Pack on XBL...

screw Halo. I'm gonna give my copy of Reach away. I can't support a multiplayer game with such a game-breaking feature as armor lock. It's spammability is exploited so much in free-for-all, doubles and slayer that I can't wrap my mind around how Bungie could have let it through playtesting. It's been out for months and there's been no update to fix it and I haven't seen Bungie comment on the issue in their forums yet.
If they wanna shovel a game out and bank on the brand selling it then that's their choice. I kinda regretted buying Halo 3 and I now fully regret buying Reach. I won't make this mistake again. No more Bungie games for me

Yeah, what? I've played a pretty significant amount of Reach online, and while every once in a while I come across some kid who thinks it's helpful to spam armor lock, it hardly ever gives them an advantage. If anything, it makes the other team try harder to target them, because it's such a lame way to play the game.

@stubby boardman Hint: If you're charging at someone in a ghost, and they just stand there looking at you, DON'T RAM THEM. And if your complaint about armor lock is about anything besides vehicles, you must *really* suck.

@stubby boardman I won 8-9/10 of the games I played. It's not a lack of skill or lack of understanding the mechanics. It's playing (as previously stated) rumble pit, doubles or slayer and having to pause the action because armor lock is a get-out-of-fail-free card. Someone stick you? armor lock. Enemy approaching with the sword? armor lock. Shield's down? armor lock til it replenishes and try again.
Waiting around for someone to come out of armor lock isn't safe because there's a chance you're already wounded from the fight and thus easier for the enemy's teammate to finish off (not to mention they likely know where you are and what weapon you're using). If you do wait for them to come out of it, they can just go right back in as soon as you resume fire. The only situation that isn't dodgy is if their ally is already dead but I've still seen people pull of some stupid stuff that never should have happened.
Familiar with 'frosting'? If not, it's the split-second moment of invincibility that follows armor lock, despite the fact that the player can now move and shoot. You can fire off 2 DMR shots in that time. /facepalm
What it comes down to is that it makes the game *not fun*. I'm not saying it's impossible to overcome. It's just not fun. I don't feel any satisfaction for besting someone that abuses armor lock. I only feel like playing a different game

@stubby boardman oh, and Bungie just bans people that complain about it rather than addressing the issue. Don't say any of that "learn to adapt" or "it's their game" crap. If nobody every complained about poor features then nothing would ever get better

i'm sorry you suck.
if there was truly a problem with armor lock, they would have fixed it by now. but they haven't. i'm sure Bungie's data has showed them that people with armor lock don't have a higher win percentage than anyone else.
"It's playing (as previously stated) rumble pit, doubles or slayer and having to pause the action because armor lock is a get-out-of-fail-free card"
but while they're locked, they're unable to kill anyone. plus, especially in rumble pit, there's a good chance they'll die as soon as they come out anyway. in rumble pit, this wastes time that they could use to just respawn and get back into the fray.
""Waiting around for someone to come out of armor lock isn't safe because there's a chance you're already wounded from the fight and thus easier for the enemy's teammate to finish off (not to mention they likely know where you are and what weapon you're using)"
then DON'T STICK AROUND UNLESS YOUR TEAMMATE IS THERE TO BACK YOU UP. simple.
"If you do wait for them to come out of it, they can just go right back in as soon as you resume fire."
only once, and if they do that, they only get to stay locked for about a second each time (instead of the four you get if you hold it), since going down into lock takes a lot of the charge.

I want to think they're worth it but I honestly cannot bring myself to justify the price of them, especially if they'll just end up pulling another trick like ODST's bonus disc, no matter how long that takes. Also, the new achievements are just horrible. I was hoping for SOMETHING relating to data pads. I hole that eventually comes, else I find them pointless.
Excuse my ignorance, but I don't see what datapads add to the story. Maybe it's because I haven't sat down to focus on them and Halo 3's terminals, nor have I read the Halo novels, but last I checked, Halo was primarily a video game series, and so if the story isn't explained within the games, it feels pointless to have a story to such an extent.
Sorry, I had to get that out. But yeah, four maps for 800 MS points would have been better. I'll just wait a bit before buying. I swear that achievements are just there to sell petty things to the weak-minded.
