Careful planning. Cautious movement, in constant fear that the enemy will see straight through your cunning plans. A captivating story of political intrigue and espionage in a turn-based strategy game. Super Meat Boy is such a fun game.

When I was a kid I just couldn't get enough of the "zany sidekick" archetype, you know, Chris Tucker, Timon and Pumbaa, hell, I like Donkey more than Shrek. So I was tossing these around in my head when it hit me - a movie with thousands upon thousands of zany, hilarious, flesh eating sidekicks. The Resident Evil universe really provides the perfect backdrop for me to tell that tale.

I doubt it, when does that distinction ever need to be made? Video Game movies have always been terrible, therefore beyond the chuckles they get at release they seem to generally be swept under the rug.
The Real question is why the studios bankroll these productions when they are destined to leave a bad taste in almost everyones mouth.

I don't mean to imply that its folly to try, but they should all be approached as guilty of sucking until proven innocent ;)

I am disappointed with Mark Whalberg selection for the movie. I think he is not the right choice for the Movie, he lacks the charisma that this role requires. Sure he can be tough but he can not really be funny.

Studio wanted big name and that is what they got, but I rather have Nathan Fillion or Nolan North.

Mel Gibson 20 years ago could have pulled it off cause he can play tough and funny. But Mark Whalberg not so much, I hope I am wrong and that he gives an awesome performance and proves me wrong until then I will say its just not going to work.

weirdly enough M.Walhberg's casting isnt my main worry, theres a few movies i like of his, (and many which sucked) but he might be able to pull it off.

the script and direction is where im most worried, why couldnt they just hire the naughty dog devs to come up with a suitable script, or at least concept story... -_-

well they better get their heads out of their cubicles and start some noise, because seriously, this is unacceptable.

They would better just take Uncharted 2, play it in a cinema (with some of the fighting cut out to speed things up) and just claim it's a movie, and it'll get better reviews than how this is shaping up.

"this movie hasn't been looking good to me since that whole Mark Wahlberg thing"

Russell taking the helm as director should've sent up a massive red flag about the movie's quality. Is he a good director? He can be when he's not throwing a tantrum or bullying his crew. Is he an incredibly pompous ass that takes creative liberties to such an extreme extent that his "vision" shares little semblance with its original source material? Oh yeah and that is precisely what Uncharted DOES NOT NEED.

There's a few routes one could take when it comes to an Uncharted film. You could adapt the game's script to film, cutting out less relevant bits while pumping up some character development; it might be condensed, but at least it would have A) some resemblance to the original source material or B) successfully compliment it. Or, you could take the easy route and rip off Indiana Jones. Throw a bit more snark into the mix and replace the Nazis with whatever power mad faction you choose (mercs + war criminal) and BAM! you've got an uninspired but decent Uncharted film. Pretty hard to f*ck that up, right? Instead of getting that, we're getting "National Treasure: Funky Bunch edition".

At least it will be Nothing like the game. They're free to do whatever they want and it won't affect what we may or may not think about it. For me personally, I don't plan on spending much more time thinking about a Goodfellas-esque Indiana Jones sprinkled with some Hallmark made 4TV nonsense.

@JonahStein No, but a bunch of adults (I'm 25, but have family and friends who would base a game on a movie trailer) who pay absolutely no attention to video games would be affected by this movie.

"Yeah, so I was thinking about the idea of a really intense human drama about this guy and his son. The son is from a previous marriage, but his mother leaves and the kid gets really close to the father's new girlfriend, like she basically BECOMES his mother. So, they're a lot closer to each other than either of them is to the dad, and I guess the son's relationship with the girlfriend is the only thing keeping her with the Dad. But then the girlfriend is killed in a bus fire and the father and son have to come to terms with their new situation... then I found out the studio had optioned Tempest and, well, the rest is history!"

This film is going to be a total disgrace.

I have this idea which really turns me on, it's about when an emotionally withdrawn character and unhinged free spirit strike up a relationship on a Long Island Rail Road train from Montauk, New York. They are inexplicably drawn to each other, despite their radically different personalities. I'm really looking forward to when we begin filming Mirror's Edge.

@ComicShaman Apparently he's famous for his temper, so perhaps some brave, noble soul could go to the set and get in his face about how terrible it is, only for it to make Russel fly off the handle and murder this valiant hero and go to jail for 20 years. Someone needs to make this ultimate sacrifice

Here's an idea. Get all the cutscenes from the games, slap them all together in an editing room and sell that as the movie.

I guarantee it will be a million times better than this obvious attempt to cash in on popularity.

What's the big deal if the film ends up having little to do with its source material? Russell is an intelligent filmmaker with a number of interesting movies under his belt, and nothing he'll end up doing will detract from the two existing games. I'd rather get a good video game adaptation that has little to do with its source material than an awful one that follows it to a T (see: just about every other video game-to-film adaptation made so far).

@meurice Every awful video game film so far is because they don't follow the history of it's franchise. The reason video game movies are horrible, are because of scripts like this.
