Ghostbusters: Sanctum of Slime will be a downloadable follow-up to 2009's Ghostbusters: The Video Game, 'cause Gozer knows publisher Atari can barely afford a full-cost sequel. Being developed by Assault Heroes creator Wanako (now named Behavior Studios), the four-player (online and couch co-op) top-down action game will not feature any voice work by the original Ghostbusters like Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd. It's still unclear whether their characters even appear, or if they've been replaced by a new team of specter hunters.
Sanctum of Slime, to be released in the Spring of 2011 on XBLA, PSN and PC, will have players taking the role of "the rookie," who was introduced in the 2009 game. We don't have more details beyond what little information and screens were given to USA Today, so let's just cross our streams and hope for the best.

I still need to beat the game on ps3.
My save got erased near the end of it on hard mode and I just never went back.

That's rough... The same thing happened to me with Arkham Asylum; my file got corrupted. Cept I ended up beating it. Twice.

I LOVED the game. It wasn't the amazing AAA game everyone wished it was, but like one reviewer eloquently put, "it's a love letter to Ghostbuster fans."
DLC was even planned for this game. I saw official pictures of classic ghostbuster maps like the roof of the building from the first movie and the river of slime from the second. But I think due to the unpopularity of the online component... it was canceled.

Another alien/zombie swarm/breed type top-down shooter? Do we really need another one? I love Ghostbusters anything, but really...?

Yeah it's a good and untapped genre. Do we really need another FPS/TPS every month?

These top down alien/zombie shooters lack variety in their gameplay, they're fun for a bit, until you realize they're all the same game with different set pieces and characters tossed in.
If they wanted to go with something different, a Ghostbusters RPG would've been amazing or RTS or heck, even a dating sim.

@BinaryTB I often fantasize about a Pokemon-style ghost-collecting Ghostbusters RPG. Or, well, a friend of mine does. One of my dorkier friends. I mean, what a dork! Right?

It's a shame there won't be a true sequel. I had a blast with the original.

Yeah, it was great! And if they can't afford to get Bill Murray, Dan Akroyd, Harold Ramis or Ernie Hudson to do voices, they could just take clips of their voices from the last game and previous movies to splice dialog together like when Chef came back on South Park and wanted to rape the chlidren.

I second that--the first was a fantastic game all around: Fresh gameplay ideas, fun atmosphere, classic feel and--of course--the inclusion of the original cast. It was the closest we're going to get to a full GB3 movie that should have come out right after GB2-- instead of the one that's being worked out now with *gulp* new actors.

I will still be buying this because i love Ghostbusters but its sad that we can't get a true sequel! It would be better if EA or Sony developed a Ghostbusters game

@zzZombie Furthermore, Infinity ward could make the ones that are overrated, poorly balanced and reliant on their past reputation--and Treyarch could make the ones that are actually well written and fun to play ;) lol

Been on the fence about getting the original. Can anyone that played it give me their thoughts? I tried the demo and didn't really like it that much, aside from being impressed with how well they recreated the New York City Public Library.

It's a fun game. Good story with original cast doing the voice work. Only real complaint was that the difficulty doesn't build slowly through the game but instead seems to just double at a boss fight or next level. Overall it's a game for a Ghostbuster fan. The multiplayer was a blast too, just short lived.

Sorry for the double-post in advance. This just isn't going through...
If you play the game on easy just for the experience, you should have a good time. Aside from the fact that you are acting out these childhood Ghostbuster fantasies (for example: you get to trash the Sedwick Hotel ballroom with Venkman), none of the actual gameplay is all that fun. But the plot and set pieces are pretty good.
Treat it more like a movie than a game, and its worth $20.

I got it for $4.50 on Steam a while back. I haven't finished it because its a hassle to set up my HTPC to play it. But, its totally worth it when I do. We treat it like watching a movie. In fact, my wife watches me play it on the projector. :)

Disagree with MLS. At the time, I felt the game was worth full price based solely on the production values alone: The original music, original cast, great graphics-- better on the xbox than ps3 (documented).
The game can get repetitive here and there, but don't think this is just a "movie game." It's better than that, and definitely worth whatever sale price you'll find it at. Multiplayer can be fun, too, if you can find people to play with.

My son will be so excited! Last year's game started an obsession for him that saw him make a Ghostbusters birthday cake and insist on being the marshmallow man for Halloween (he won a contest), among other things. He's 4. Sure hope this one doesn't suck!

Hoping it's a twin-stick shooter that's not arena based. Gimmie a vast level for once with a twin-stick. Ghostbusters is the perfect franchise to do it with, too.
I'll be watching this one.

i would love a ghost busters business sim/turn based strategy a bit like the old X-coms, recruit your own busters in a city other than Manhattan its not like franchising wasn't hinted at when the last game ended

What a shame for those who enjoyed the original! I still have fond memories of slime tethering lamps to the ceiling. I was really hoping for a true sequel, not yet another twin-stick shooter quick cash grab. And none of the original voice talent... WTF?

It's all good and dandy, but let's hope they eventually afford a full-fledged sequel. The previous game had a lot of potential, that kinda potential developers usually untap on sequels.

I think it's just that Alien Swarm is the new heavyweight in this small genre.
Anyways, I've been playing games for over two decades and I have to say I've never ever heard of that old Ghostbusters game till now. Nice!
