I feel like the Simpson's episode "Homer's Barbershop Quartet" sums up the Grammy's quite nicely.

Tommy Tallarico manages to attach his name to this despite not really having anything to do with creating it.

Well in a way, it does involve him. He was a pioneer of music in the gaming industry, arguably putting gaming on the path to this point. He's mostly just upset it wasn't him getting nominated though.

Congrats and good luck, but the Grammys are a joke. Katy Perry is nominated for album of the year?!

How did we get from me saying I thought you were wrong to me being stupid enough to pay big bucks for world music?

This is the song that should have won.

My friends and I would have lan party games and as we all started up the game we would chant along. This song is way better.

YMMV. When I first installed Warlords, I changed the title screen back to the original version as soon as I could.

Isn't it pronounced Boba? My spelling is probably a little off.

@chrisredfield31 I respect your opinion, but personally, it's not as epic as Baba Yetu.

Why is it this corny stuff you find in the "world music" section of Hallmark is always the first to go up for a Grammy?

I mean, it's a fine piece of music, but there are many much better pieces in the entire repertoire of gaming.

Whatever, at least game music is beginning to cross over and get more recognition.

About damned time. This song is so epic it gave me chills the first time I heard it and it's on regular rotation on my car's MP3 player.

I've honestly never understood what's so great about Baba Yetu. It's not bad or anything, but I still can't fathom all the praise it has gotten over the years.

Nevertheless, good luck.

I am all but shocked and sadden that the music industry has ignored down right amazing game music from the past. I am happy to see the game music industry getting some recognition but man so many songs from past games were simply amazing.

@Stevetrop Man of Mystery

Just a guess here, but a lot of that music doesn't feature vocals, and maybe that's why it was never really recognized, because a lot of people seem to think that it can only be music if it has some annoying asshat whining along with the notes.

So does Megadeth - Sudden Death not count as a grammy nod for video game music? It was written specifically for Guitar Hero: WoR.

@hezeuschrist I suppose the difference here is that it is still very much a Megadeth song.

"Best Instrumental Arrangement Accompanying Vocalists"

Wtf? Is that a real category or a joke from Joystiq? You mean like almost every song ever?

It's a fantastic tune, and hopefully a sign that the Grammies will start giving more attention to videogame music.

I'd feel even better about it if it didn't have to take a CD release by the composer to be nominated; or, a videogame composition from this year (perhaps on an OST CD, if it has to be for consideration) were nominated instead (or also).

… still, it's a start.

I'm listening to samples of it on his website right now. It's pretty cool stuff.

I want to buy it, but I'd feel like a weird New Age Hippie type if I listened to it during a car trip or something. :-P

Frankly, I don't think there is a better choice. While there are other pieces out there that I like better, I can think of one that captures the ideas and feelings behind a game as well as Baba Yetu does.
