It's also "more personal," according to the developers. Rather than DAO's create-a-character templates, BioWare wants to customize Hawke's story by showing how he affects people, so treating someone one way early in the story will have an effect on how they act later on, creating what the company hopes is its "most reactive game to date." BioWare describes making of Dragon Age 2 in new video
34
Gamespot has posted a brand new video about the making of Dragon Age 2, and there are some nice tidbits in there for those seeking more information about the sequel to BioWare's fantasy RPG. The game's devs talk about how they began with the art style, putting together an animatic first that showed off what they wanted the look and feel of the game to be. Dragon Age: Origins had the Grey Wardens providing a strange sort of justice, but Dragon Age 2 is a little dirtier, with werewolves licking blood and heads getting smashed in.

@BrianH The only way you could consider that a spoiler is if it was for the first game. They've been extremely open since day one of DA2 that that lady is Flemeth, and you figure out Flemeth was a shapeshifter in like, the first hour of DAO

ME2 was badass. The only thing dumbed down was the planetary exploration, in favor of the gawdawful mining, but trying to find a way up those hills got tiresome as well.

@Drunken Irish Sniper ME2 was far superior to ME1 it was streamlined not "dumbed down" btw your elitist pc gamer attitude is what is ruining gaming for the rest of us

I don't think they dumbed down ME2 so much as they made a lot more of it visual, that is to say, there was a lot less "If your character stat = # or higher, you can open this box." and more "If you can open this box, you can open this box."

Developers admitting their own mistakes is music to my ears. I loved DA:O but, let's face it, it was far from perfect. I'm glad to see the developers listened to fan feedback and took it seriously.

He's making point of the fact they removed weapons and armour changeability in essence.
Sure you could change your armour to an extent while on your ship but it was a lot less detailed then in 1.

Although I'll miss my Rogue-ish, old-looking dwarven sex machine, I'm excited to play anything that Bioware has a hand in.

If by "detailed" you mean "spend half the game converting the shitty armor you keep picking up into Omni-gel", I agree.

I wasn't expecting to like DA: O as much as I did. Can't wait for the sequel. It sounds like they took the criticisms of the first game to heart.

Great, looks like they are turning into another hack and slash with "RPG Elements". The draw of the original was the classic feel it had. Now it's just more pandering to an ever growing ever drooling audience. I enjoy hack and slashes myself, but please stop taking franchises and ruining them.

Would you rather they had of not added the option to turn it into omni-gel then?
The fact that you may have found more armour that you found unneeded then armour you did want doesn't make it any less involved.

This is not so much of a making-of as it is apologetics. The only criticism combat every received in Origins was that it wasn't quite as complex and as deep as it could be. Statements like "shaving off the corners" do not inspire confidence!
I'm sure the game will be fun, but it still seems like we won't enjoy it for the same reason we enjoy Origins or Baldur's Gate. I'm skeptical that they'll change my mind on this, but they can definitely feel free to try.

Can't wait. And I am so glad to see the insane amounts of blood spatter during conversations is still around!!!

I had my doubts initially, but I have to admit it's starting to look good. If they indeed manage to keep the DA feel while still making it new and different that's fine with me. I still would've preferred to not be tied to one character, but I understand the need for that to tighten up the story, as it were. (Though can I just point out, and I hate to keep going back to this, but Baldur's Gate had a great story, that didn't require us to be stuck with a fixed protagonist, but anyway...)
They do need to fix the blood splatter patterns on characters - that one scene where Hawk is talking, they look like they've been shot up with a paint gun. I mean come on! :)

DA : O had a great story that didn't require being fixed to a character.
And as for the blood splatter, if you don't like it there was always the option to turn it of in DA : O, not to mention you could have your dog lick it off.

Things I hope they keep. A) Option to change the hero's appearance. B) Option to play as the opposing gender C) Not losing any of the possible classes you can be.
It is sad, but more feeling like your character is part of the world is nice. I mean, as much as I preferred Mass Effect 2 to Dragon Age: Origins, I really wished throughout the current Mass Effect Series that they'd open up the ability to play as other races.

That's a nice thought. While it is possible, the attention to detail that Bioware likes to give would make the game huge. Meaning it might take a really long time to make. Its possible you could get what you're looking for after Mass Effect 3?

It's confirmed it's being 'dumbed' down because 10 buttons was to much for PC users.
