Get into Harms Way, Doritos Crash Course and Bomberman Battlefest on XBLA today

The two final contenders in the Doritos-sponsored "Unlock Xbox" game design contest have been fully realized and released as Xbox Live Arcade games today, for free. Until December 26, you can cast your vote for either Doritos Cash Course (download) or Harms Way (download) through the Xbox Unlock ad on the Dashboard, with the winner to be announced on December 29 and offered a 50G (that's dollars, not Achievement points) part-time, game consulting gig with Doritos.

Perhaps overshadowed by the flavorful showdown, the previously announced Bomberman Live sequel, Battlefest (download), is also available on the Arcade today for 800 Microsoft Points ($10). Additionally, the third Lara Croft: GoL challenge pack add-on, "A Hazardous Reunion" (download), has been released for 400 points ($5), along with the "Marvel Pinball" tables (download/trial) for Pinball FX 2, priced at 800 points.

Update: The Costume Quest DLC "Grubbins on Ice" (download) has also been released today for 400 points.

Free XBLA games?

I queued up the free games this morning. Haven't gotten to try them out yet but they look surprisingly fun. Looking forward to playing them tonight when I get home.

I just downloaded these two free titles via xbox.com

Are there any other free games I could download? I think there is another Doritos game for free, right?

There was Dash of Destruction - which is gone from XBLA now.

Aegis Wing should still be available, as well as Totem Ball (requires a Vision camera, not sure if the Kinect Camera works). They're both free.

They have had a few games for free available over the years. I don't recall Sony, Nintendo or any other company offering a whole lot of free stuff over the years either.

@Duke If you are a PS Plus subscriber (like me) you get numerous free games every month. Not just once or twice a year. Also, the games are Playstation One classics and established PSN titles. As superior as XBOX Live is compared to PSN, Microsoft could still learn a few things from Sony.

The Yaris game is gone now. It was really bad!

@bxgt If you have Yaris in your download history you can still download it for some crazy reason. I put mine on my HDD when I upgraded. Still awful!

Free achievements, hell yes.Heads up, harms way has an achievement for looking at the credits.

@DarkNightRJ I was close towards the five minute mark but the last few require online games and there is absolutely no one playing. Stuck at 130 for now.

I have a feeling that the Doritos game with shooting and driving will get more votes than the avatar obstacle course one. Call me crazy.

@Duke Avatar games are always the most popular on indie games so you never know with people. Since I have wasted money on quite a few avatar item I like seeing them show up in games. I go in with an open mind.

But does anyone else feel like it's a little bit ridiculous to pay $10 for a single pinball table? I mean...Trials HD was $10 over Thanksgiving break, and that's a TON more gameplay than a single pinball table. Just saying...

Oh, OK, that makes a great deal more sense (yet is still overpriced, in my opinion).

@Lance001 You are wrong 2.50 is perhaps the best deal on arcade for these tables.

XBLA has offered free games before. I got Undertow and Carcassonne for zero Microsoft Space Dollars in the past.

Undertow was a "oops, we screwed up" thing when Live went down for awhile. It wasn't given simply because they wanted to give it out free.

Texas Hold Em was free for a time as well. First couple of days or some such.

After 2 rounds of Bomberman on Live, I found it to be plagued by the same ridiculous approval system by everyone in the lobby. On what other game does everyone have to approve a match before it starts? Could you imagine how insane this would be in Halo, CoD, or Gears?

I'm glad that Jango Fett has found work doing the commentary in Harms Way. It gets my vote.

The marvel tables in pinball are perhaps the best Zen has done so far. Simply incredible the lot of them.

Oh man, I'm loving Crash Course so far. It's an absolute joy to see my little Conan O'brien Avatar run an American Gladiator style gauntlet. :D

finally. i've been waiting for doritos crash course for a year.

Wow, only one person here commented on the Bomberman release? Dammit. You're all overshadowing the main XBLA release today and (IMO) the best.

Seriously, Crash Course was epic, but nothing beats playing Battlefest online and grabbing some sweet frags. Shame on y'all.

Harm's Way is already at an advantage for not having "Doritos" in the title.
