I've given up on the series for now. The stuck in a spot while trying to shoot bit really was too much by RE5 and I just can't excuse it anymore. I really hope it is done away with someday. I heard that Mercenaries 3D might have moving and shooting...is that so?

You're forgetting that Revelations is returning to RE's roots (at least we hope that's true), i.e. it's not gonna be a simple linear arcadey shooter anymore. We don't need strafing, nor double jumping, jetpacks and speed boost upgrades for that matter.

RE, originally, is not an action game, it's a horror adventure that happens to require some enemies to provide tension. Calling for more action game elements is just plain silly.

I think that people who complain about not being able to move and shoot in a video game should give it a whirl in real life. It's surprisingly difficult.

All things considered, I am a target shooter hobbiest in real life. And yes, I do stand still for that. Yet, I have not had to stand still in a zombie type attack before. I like my games involving shooting to allow me to move a bit. In reality - if a guy is running at me moaning, and I had to move while shooting - I could try it and most likely miss, but still try. In this series I can't.

So, if you are looking to make accuracy an excuse for their style, I would say the easy solution is to apply real life loss of accuracy in the shooting - not make you glued to the ground. You guys were quick to discredit me when I think that their style in this game was less based on reality and more on a lazy way to increase difficulty.

"We don't need strafing, nor double jumping, jetpacks and speed boost upgrades for that matter. "

I think you're stretching there. I asked for the ability to move - not have weird crap like jetpacks. My request has been made many many times in talking about this series by god knows how many people. Let's not get overly excited and accuse me of wanting weird crap that isn't involved in such a series. Moving, as a human can do in an attack situation, is not equivalent to wanting speed boosts or double jumping. It's asking for simple normal human physical ability.

Maybe you play a lot of FPS games so you're used to them? I don't, and whenever I try, the way moving/shooting works doesn't seem even remotely like a real ability. It's kind of all floaty - completely breaks the sense that you're an actual person. Could just be me, though.

I didn't have any problem with RE4 (haven't played 5). Now if you want to complain about controls, complain about the controls in RE 1-3 (and the others of that era) - *those* controls were really awful. RE4 controls are fine.

Anyhow, screw that, let's get back to this post - 'combine the exploration of pre-RE4 games with the combat in the later Resident Evils' - okay, that's one 3DS officially sold. (Although, at only 20% complete, doesn't sound like it's exactly going to be a launch title... and no I'm not buying the mercenaries game.)

Good points. But many times moving and shooting saved my life in Dead Space. But I admit, I didn't use it as much as one might think. But I like having the option there (as others have said).

Does anyone else find it strange that the 3DS launches in less than 3 months and we still have no idea of that games will be launched along with it?

I'm happy with this as well, but what about the enemies, they'll be Ganados, Majinis or the real zombies?

For me, I'll take the real zombies and creatures with T and G Virus any day. Hated RE4 & RE5.

Pandemic Studios was canned late last year just before releasing the Saboteur (very solid game!), so our best chance for a "Mercenaries 3" is a Just Cause 3, a near clone of Mercenaries (though not as brilliant.)

I'll be on an airplane to the Bahamas in the middle of April 2011. I'm starting to think I'm more excited to play 3DS on the plane than I am for the Bahamas.

I hope they add a better sense of fear than RE5 (or even RE4) did. I remember playing the original RE on PSX years ago and when those dogs jumped through the windows I shat myself, really. But before the startle, I was genuinely nervous/anxious/fearful of what was to come next.

Bring THAT back, and you've got a sale.

@Enosoma 3D adds a better sense of fear. I ran the RE5 benchmark in 3D on my PC, and having depth, so you get a greater sense of how close the danger is to you really ups the anxiety. I felt nothing running it in 2D, but in 3D, I was at the edge of my seat shouting, "Holy crap, he's right there! Shoot him! Run!"

Sounds like they will see what gamers like in Revelations and then decide what to put in Mercenaries. Sounds like they are trying to put a lot into it.

Which reminds me I still need to beat RE 1, 0, Code Veronica, 2, 3, 5, Outbreak, and Outbreak 2... at least RE 4 and Dead Aim are done!

If I missed any please don't tell me.

Sprites and cartooney games do not count. Neither does TR for PSX.

Haven't played RE5 (beyond the demo), but judging by my experiences with the first and fourth RE titles, I will completely back you up in the (unpopular?) opinion that the series is better as action games than as horror games. RE's "horror" was always built around cheap scares and sub-B-movie schlock. If you want horror, play Silent Hill or Fatal Frame - but Resident Evil 4 is one of the greatest action games ever made.

I'd pretty much have to agree with that.
My favorites of the series are basically the ones with the most action. RE3 was really the first push into that, if you played on easy (there was only 2 modes that or hard) you were given lots of ammo and health. Didn't make encountering the nemesis any less scary though.
While the RE games really did get their scares from tricks and the controls, I still say theirs a line where you can keep it action yet still be scary. Even if like you said other games do, do it better.

I guess we'll see when Revaltions comes out, seems to be trying to bridge the two different formulas of RE together. We'll see how it goes

After RE5, I decided I just wasn't really excited for the series. I liked 4 quite a bit, but I never dug the newer storyline. I prefer the simpler old "normal" zombies stuff. I liked 1 and 2 the best.

But I always thought it could be pretty awesome if they went back and redid RE2 with the RE5 engine. It sounds like Revelations is sorta like the older games, but with the newer engine...which sounds awesome!

zero gets a bad wrap it's quite good and thankfully got rid if the having to burn zombies. the worse part of REmake.
though the leechmen are quite evil, i'd give it a shot sometime it's not all that hard.

Though playing it you'll think to yourself just how awesome it would have been with a coop mode

Re1-Re CV are the only games I recognize as RE titles. After that, it completely drifted away into something else. As good as RE4 was, it wasn't a RE game. It was sort of REs SMB2. It was a new IP and Capcom used the RE universe to sell it.

Until they go back to the style of the first games, I'm done with it.

I can understand what you mean.
While it did change so much, for me it was the characters and story that drew me to the games rather than the gameplay.
While RE4 was great like you said it's so far from being a RE title.
Main reason I prefer RE5 since that fits better into the whole story side of things when you look at both games as a whole
