What to get for the Nintendo fan in your life who already has everything? How about this guitar made out of a Nintendo Entertainment System? GetLoFi.com hacked a working electric guitar together from the body of an NES, and as you can tell from the YouTube video after the break, it sounds ... ok?
So it's not great, but then again it's basically a box made out of plastic. The guitar is being sold for $150 on GetLoFi's web shop, and because it's custom made (the neck is a reused oak guitar neck), they've only got one for sale, but they seem game to make more if the demand is there. The NES itself has been hollowed out for all the other electronics, so if you want to play your favorite NES games while strumming their tunes, you'll need your own console for that.

Is it me or does it sound extremely distorted? Not sure if that's just the quality of the audio upload, but the guitar seems to sound sort of bad. :\ Or maybe it's supposed to sound like that?

I hope the audio recording was just horrible. Even for a plastic box with strings, that sounded awful.

Please fix the grammar issues! Say 'an NES' out loud and tell me if it sounds right. now refer back to grammer laws. the work 'an' goes before a word if the word starts with a vowel, or sounds like a vowel (hour). PLEASE fix it because you would never say, 'an Nintendo Entertainment System'...
i don't mean to sound like and an ass, but it just bugs me. a lot.

@Zezzler Except that 'N' is pronounced as if it started with an 'e'. You can't pronounce 'n' by itself without a vowel sound at the beginning, it can only be pronounced without a vowel if a vowel follows it, like 'no' or 'nag' for example. Say it out loud and you'll see what I mean. Oh, and you're supposed to pronounce it like N-E-S (like an acronym), not ness.

Come on, duder, think this through. You said yourself that the beginning of the word only needs to SOUND like a vowel in order for the 'an' to qualify. Well, look at all the other possibilities; we're not idiots, you know. If 'an NES' doesn't look right, your not looking at it right. I don't know anyone who says NES as a word, like 'Ness,' they say it as an acronym, like 'En-Ee-Ess...' you know, letter N, letter E, letter S?
Hence, an NES.

@Shadsy H sounds almost never are supposed to get an 'an'. Almost always just an 'a'. The point you brought up was false, The H part is almost never really silent.

@benHaskett "I don't know anyone who says NES as a word, like 'Ness,'"
Thats how I always say it.
Ness is quicker/more fluent/better sounding than saying EN EE ESS

And do you realize you just made my point for me?
The fewer that exist, means each one that is destroyed is more important.
It's like the Dodge Datoyna. Only 500 were made. Each time one crashes or is destroyed doing something, that makes the car more rare.

As long as the tension is there so the guitar can tune properly it doesn't really matter if the body is made out of plastic. The actual sound of the electric guitar is more dependent on the neck, strings, and most importantly the amp and effects used. I'm trying to elegantly say this person didn't record it right. I hope that doesn't make me sound like Steve Jobs (You're holding the phone wrong!).

I knew how this all started. It all began when the creator stared at both his guitar and NES. Then he ponder and wonder what he should do about it. He stared for hours and hours and then it hit him. Lo and behold the Guitendo was born.

the quality of the sound is do to many issues, all combining into a perfect storm. however there is a silver lining. a better idea would be the same thing, but replace "real electric guitar" with "guitar style MIDI controller" and connect to a retro synth.
