Rumor: PlanetSide Next launching in March

A PlanetSide sequel is sort of like the long-in-development third Ghostbusters movie. We've been hearing it's on the way for so long that we're starting to suspect the whole thing's a long con, a grift, if you will, designed to bilk us out of ... something. First Sony hinted it was in development in September of '09, then SOE's John Smedley called it "PlanetSide Next" a month later.

Now, Smedley's back on it, telling the Escapist "We have a very big launch coming in the month of March," Smedley said. "It's a big first person shooter franchise that we're really happy with." With little prodding, Smedley basically confirmed it to be the long-rumored rebirth of the MMOFPS.

Though it obviously hasn't been formally announced yet, we wouldn't be at all surprised to see it formally debut at this Saturday's VGAs. Fair warning: If it has Slimer in it, we're gonna know something's up.

I hope they fix some of the problems that plagued the original. Don't get me wrong, I loved it, but some things (like having to wait forever for the next shuttle to the battlefield) were kind of a train wreck.

I couldn't see myself paying a subscription for the game, but if it is a microtransaction game (in the vein of LOTRO or a million Korean MMO's) I'd be on board.

@BananaBoat You missed the PlanetSide heyday. The HARTs were a backup form of transportation to catch up with your squad, they weren't actually meant to get you to the battlefield.

When PS actually had enough players, you'd walk outside sanctuary and see an army of players forming squads, setting plans, grabbing vehicles... it was glorious. Nobody used the HART, you just recruited a decent pilot for your squad, outfit yourself, and went on your way.

Sounds cool. I never got the 1st one b/c I didn't have Internet or a good computer, but now I'm ready.

may be time to call 1st Cavalry Midget Mobile back to active duty. blue and gold representing.

Bring forth the Kaaos, the Devil Dogs, the TRX, the GotR

send in the Exxon, the Mobile, and alittle bit of the Vanguard too.

For all we know, Smedley is probably to this day, puffing smoke while

looking at the Agency.

Holy crap! I've been telling my friends for years that I'd love a planetside sequel. Long live the Vanu Sovereignty!

Yay finally a new Planetside hopefully this will get rid of the TRX hacking for good!

@Kalu You're an idiot, stop accusing people much better then you of cheating. Especially when the outfit who you played with had cheaters and you didn't even realize it. They were recorded radar hacking and the videos were posted on youtube, I can post the links if you like.

Allow me to announce the facts here. Random people on the internet aren't always right. People can claim information and lie (or be completely wrong) about it since the internet offers anonymity. TRx has not once ever claimed to hack or ever been "proud" of it, since to be proud of something you don't do is dumb
