Metal Gear Arcade, the stereoscopic-3D, head-tracking, online-playable coin-op Metal Gear, will finally arrive in arcades next week -- in Japan. With the game finally shipping out to game centers, Konami released the opening video -- which, since it's an arcade game, classifies as a genuine "attract mode," attempting to get gamers' attention and entice them out of their 100 yen coins. Check it out after the break.
Also after the break: some off-screen gameplay footage from DigInfo, taken early this year at a trade show. It should look pretty familiar to Metal Gear Online players, but with all those crazy gimmicks afforded by the arcade release, like the head-tracking and the gun controller.
Woah! In Japan they can't just have regular ol' expensive 3D glasses. No....they have to have super expensive 3D glasses WITH CAMERAS attached to track your head motion.
@TheRepublic Mech arcades have already been done. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BattleTech_Centers If they make transforming sit-inside mechs I think you'll see it as an amusement park ride before an arcade game.
@BrianReal Problem is they would have to patch it in and my guess is they made this machine for people who don't have the money for a PS3/people with friends that don't have a PS3.
All those lucky Japanese who get to see this in the arcade and avoid it. Avoiding it just because I don't live in Japan isn't good enough, I want to physically be near a machine and not play it, just so it can feel the sting of rejection. And believe me, those Japanese arcade machines are able to experience almost the entire spectrum of human emotion, except for that feeling of nausea and disgust when you smell what other people are cooking when you walk through an apartment complex.
@WhiskeyTangoFoxtrot I was so intrigued by what you accused me of, I found a URL with the script (I've never seen Donnie Darko, but I know what movie you're talking about). I searched a few keywords from what I wrote, but I can't find exactly what you're talking about. Here's the URL - http://sfy.ru/?script=donnie_darko - can you please copy and paste what you're referring to in another post to me. I would say if anything, after I wrote that, it did remind me of something, and that would be what Fat Bastard said to Austin Powers in AP3, other than that, I'm at a total loss. So be a dear, and back up you're argument with proof. Thanks!
In spite of the technology showcased in this, I'm much more interested in seeing DariusBurst Another Chronicle come to the States. The return of the super widescreen side-scrolling shooter!
