Come on, Squeenix. I just want a new remake of V. We JUST had a remake of IV a couple years ago.

VI is acceptable too.

Isnt FF5 universially agreed upon (in my head) to be the worst in the series?

Id be quite happy if they just skipped 5 altogether, it was a bit camp and cheesey if I recall.

Depends on who you ask. I thought that V was pretty okay - the English translation didn't take itself seriously at all, and played out like a parody of the previous ones. The gameplay was amazingly solid and the soundtrack was awesome too. Also: Gilgamesh.

My personal favorite and least favorite are VI and VIII respectively, but unlike most I recognize that each game has their own strengths and weaknesses.

@ll features ll FFV was my favorite in the series after FF1. I loved all the customization and the fact that the plot pretty much left you alone.

FF5 is the favorite in Japan. FF7 is the favorite in North America. Why neither one has received 3D/polygon type remakes is a mystery.

My personal favorite(s) is a tie between FF6 (nostalgia) and FF9 (I recognize it as technically better than 6). I liked FF8 as well, and many people did.

All in all, FFXIV Online is generally agreed upon as the worst in the series.

FF5 the most popular in Japan?? I'm not so sure about that. Maybe among the hardcore, speedrun/low-level completion crowd, but not among the bulk of gamers. FF7 is the most popular game there, just as it is here.

I will never understand the lack of attention this game gets. I'd like to believe it's being saved for 3ds but that's just wishful thinking.

FF VI was re-released for GBA, which turned out to be the swan song of the system. This one's guessing Square-Enix will do the same thing to it once the DS reaches it's end, or release it during a phase of the 3DS's lifetime.

This one's hoping the latter turns out to be true...

Wasn't the original game released in the states towards the end of the super nintendo's cycle? I just think the game's highly underrated is all. It was one of my favorite super nes games along with Secret of Mana and Chrono Trigger.

It's BECAUSE 6 is so good why I wanna see it on ds/psp. I wiki'd the whole series to see how many platforms each game has shown up on and 6 isn't as underrepresented as I thought it was. If anything, 3 is the one that doesn't get any love... You know, now that you make me think of it, I really don't like that ugly 3d pixelization that they've been giving the games. If anything, I'd like them to make it look like the new FF4 compilation they're doing on psp. Regardless, I'd pick up a new FF6 on ds/3ds instantaneously.

Its too bad all the good RPG's go to the PSP and never come to the PS3. I trully do not get it, they would make so much more money if they released this stuff so evryone could play them.

Because making them on the DS/PSP is cheaper that on a HD console, and handhelds are more popular in Japan anyways.

Personally, I like it to stay that way after what happened with FF13 (which I enjoyed, but not more that I enjoyed other handheld RPGs like TWEWY).

@Diodax It wouldn't be hard to make this playable on a PS3... Only a couple hours at best.

Still, if that's an actual screenshot, color me unimpressed and super irritated. The sprites aren't redone but rather just have vaseline/blur filter smeared on them.

Yes it shouldn’t take much at all. If we could run these downloadable games on the PS3 the publishers would make a tone, and those of us who prefer to play games in the comfort of our living rooms could have a good selection of games to play.

I dont know how about having to shell out even more for yet another system when I shuld just be able to play on the ones I already own.

Or how about playing on a 50" screen instead of a tiny one?

I could go on but both you and Sony already know why most pepole pefer to play on a console instead of a handheld.

and other than portability, what reason could you possibly have for wanting to play an RPG on a handheld rather than a TV console? i see ZERO benefits.

@maveric101 Uh, by playing on a handheld you're able to tackle the game in bite sized chunks rather than slogging through hours of grinding.

As for the poster above, the PSP has allowed video output over television sets since 2007. Granted, the video quality isn't out of this world, but way to stay on top of things.

Hur dur, the psp is full of pirates, hur dur.

That's how I read what you said...

The DS gets pirated far more and somehow, magically, most still make money on their games.

Not many people carry around their PSPs anymore and for those that don't probably have 2-3 other gadgets that replaced it.

Handhelds are generally used more by semi-casual players than "hardcore".

I wish the DS version of FF4 had had hi-res sprite graphics instead of the fugly 3D models and backgrounds they gave it. That said, having already bought FF4 three different times for three different systems, the chances that I'll get another version ever again are approximately zip and nada (no matter how good it looks).
I'm with the others here: let's see some new versions of V and VI, already.

I finally bought the (first part) of the After Years on the Wii last month, after giving hope of it ever being ported to anything, so of course they announce this now.

Even though IV is my favourite FF game, the After Years is just plain awful. It's like really bad fanfiction.
