Vanquish's original concept included remote pilots

In his final post on the Vanquish development blog, Shinji Mikami describes an early concept for Vanquish that was less "big action movie" and more anime. Instead of cigar-chompin' soldier Sam Gideon inside the suit, the original concept had the suit as a robot, remotely controlled by three different pilots. This was even before the robodog idea.

"The robot would change forms according to the pilot in charge," Mikami explained, "as each pilot had been specially trained in areas such as shooting, melee, or hover and snipe." The idea "died a quick death," but Mikami noted that he still likes it, and that ideas are "never out of bounds," sometimes appearing in sequels or other new game designs. "I don't know what I will be making next, but considering how fickle I am, it will probably end up being a game completely different from Vanquish." At the very least, he knows it'll be a triple-A game for THQ.

Stop teasing me and just tell me if your going to make a sequel to vanquish.

I'm almost positive he won't make a sequel. It's just the way he is. If Vanquish actually sold enough units to warrant a sequel I feel that somebody else would step into the director's chair for better or worse.

what I mean is, he could be involved somehow, but he most likely won't be the director. He would most likely be the producer or something. I'm also almost positive that I'm not making any sense. I'll step away from the keyboard now.

I hope they do, but I don't feel too optimistic on how well sales of this game are. I loved this game just as much as Bayonetta since both are ridiculously over-the-top run-n-gun action games.

Here's hoping that they actually do have at the very least 1 more game to tie everything up. I hate it when the game's story is left open intentionally since it's a crap shoot on whether we (the gamers) get a chance to see how everything wraps up.

I think if Vanquish would have received a little advertising love, and perhaps a different release period, it would have had more success. The game moves at a pretty blistering pace for the most part, has excellent graphics, and is a lot of fun....except for the god-awful voice acting. That ass-hat Lt. Col. Burns guy has got to be one of the most generic, lamest characters I've seen in a video game in a long time.
