I hate how game developers now sell incomplete games, so you can buy the extras later as a DLC. Things which should have been in the game in the first place.

Tell me about it. Whatever happened to having the game be perfect. Back before expansion packs you had the whole game and if there was a bug in the game it was actually cool and rare.

Yeah GT5 should have been shipped with over 2,000 cars instead of ripping us off with just over 1,000!...

If you're not satisfied with the amount of content GT5 offers for the price of 1 normal game, you were never going to be satisfied by anything.

Sure, GT5 isn't perfect. But it's a great value.

If people really, really, really want more premium cars, it makes sense to charge them, IMO.

as usual, people will clamor for some huge feature they say is extremely valuable, but most of them will not be willing to pay extra for that feature.

Yeah, the game took too long, but that doesn't affect me whatsoever. It's a great game, but it's just a dang game and we should appreciate just how much it's got in it.

Now if only those Top Gear challenges weren't so damn hard!

my opinion. At level 20 and the amount of gameplay I have played. Gt5 has already paid for itself.

I am satisfied because I did my research before buying this game. I bought it knowing that I got 200 premiums and 800 standards. People who called it a ripoff only have themselves to blame. Wait a week before buying. Check out the review sites before running out at midnight. And if you want to be be first line, cool! Do it but know its a risk and stop whining.
This thread goes negative instantly when good news comes across. Because I knew what I was getting, I'm excited that there is a possibility that I might get more for my money free of charge!!

you know, i bought the game thinking all 1000+ cars would be high res and all that. sure i was disappointed when i realized otherwise, but i got over that REAL quick once i dove into the gameplay. there is just SO much to do i feel like i'll be playing it for months. did it take too long to make? sure. and im definitely a graphics whore but seriously, this game is too much fun to be mad at. that being said, if they want to update it, it's fine by me but i'm perfectly happy with what i have now.

Am I the only one who thinks the non-premium cars look fine. I think everyone is spoiled. I remember when GT4 first came out, and I saw it on 1080i resolution. The cars were already photo realistic!

I agree, the standard cars look awesome, aside from the door handles on a few cars.

And of course, aside from the awesome interior view, which I really really miss when I don't have them.

If GT5 only had the standard cars, it would still be a really really gorgeous game.

Maybe if they were all the standard consistent level of "Fine" that would be OK. But bunches look like PS2 level graphics and some even look like they're from the PS1 era. I'd say a game isn't "complete" if a good portion car models look half assed and not a consistent level of quality.

It really surprises me these days how people are just so willing to bend over and take it from corporations, then defend them for it. No fricking wonder governments globally are capable of the atrocities they commit. People won't even defend their rights as a consumer...

Suggesting that some of the standard cars look PS1 is ludicruous. All of them are better than PS2, but some only just (the rear end of the Berlinette Hommel is a bit ugly - the worst tail in the game that I've seen so far, and I've seen a good number of the standard cars), while others you can't tell the difference between standard and premium unless you're literally touching their bumper.

Most importantly, though, they all drive the same, which is the most important part. The only difference between the two that I would prefer fixed is the lack of cockpit view in standards.

Overall, though, the game is easily the best sim-style racer yet released. Anyone that's not happy with GT5 doesn't like sim-style racing (no matter what they tell themselves - and note that if you like NFS:Shift that doesn't mean you like sim-style racing, Shift is arcade style racing with some semi-realistic physics). And if you don't like sim-style racing, what are you doing in this thread? ;).

If you go back a few years, you'll find Yamauchi already laid out these plans. GT5 was to be a platform, a la Rock Band, receiving patches and DLC to flesh out the full game. But then GT5P was released and the full version of GT5 was announced, and people assumed that those original plans were scrapped, even though we saw GT5P getting the kinds of updates and DLC he'd previously described.

No it didn't. A lot of the standard cars were not in GT4, btw. The standard cars look amazing.

Wish they had cockpit view, but in many cases it simply isn't possible to tell a standard car by its exterior view.

I feel sorry for people who can't appreciate something this good.

The standard cars that were not in GT4 are from GT Portable for the PSP. That's where the Veyron's model comes from for example.

Just fix the really really dumb AI and i'll be extremely happy, i dont care about all the cars and how good they look and all that jazz, just fix the god damn AI, its 2010, and how the AI was so over looked is beyond me. Oh and the damage, its absolutely unrealistic.

From what I understand the AI gets better the higher level you get.

Ugh.

I think the AI's great. The attitudes are easily annoyed at lower levels, the driver strength and mental fatigue are low at lower levels. Once you get to tougher races, the AI has cooler attitudes, and more physical strength, and mentally fatigues more slowly.

and all of this is absolutely tracked in this game, as anyone who has really paid attention to the game already noticed. The AI in GT5 is a giant leap above GT4, and I really am satisfied with it.

for some reason I keep reading people claim the AI is terrible, all following the same line, always finishing in the same order they were in at lap 1, and none of that's really true.

It's not over the top unrealistic, but I think you should reconsider... perhaps after you level up a bit. I know most people don't want to play b-spec, but if you do, you can monitor how the AI in the other cars works, and perhaps appreciate that there's something very sophisticated going on.

What's wrong with the damage, in your opinion? I think it's unrealistic that damage isn't there are lower levels, but when you have damage turned all the way up, it's really good. You can knock a wheel out of alignment, drastically reduce your car's speed, and it looks amazing. Especially if you have a premium car. The damage you can see from your cockpit view is actually very impressive sometimes.

I wish the mechanical damage was truly fleshed out (like, you can knock out a water hose), but it's not 'absolutely unrealistic', in my opinion. I've never seen a game with more realistic damage.

There is only 2 things that needs a decent update IMO (besides welcomed standard cars going premium.)

Shadows need to be fixed, which I'm sure they're working on it, but isn't detrimental to the game so not in a rush for it, and....

I want head-tracking for all modes, again not a huge issue and I can wait for it.

Awesome! I'll finally see the difference in the interior between a 89' skyline and a '92 skyline!

In all seriousness though, the game does need an in-game dealership to buy/download new cars. GT needs to take a page out of Rock Band's book and have a storefront in game. Actually, GT is basically rock band, but with cars.

Also, the more I play the more the little things I pick out bug me. The game is almost uncanney valley for me where little flaws seem more glaring, and I hope they try to patch the little things as time goes on. I wonder how much post-game support this is going to get, I'm hoping a lot.

The amount of support planned for GT5 is intentionally patterned in a way reminiscent of Rock Band (assuming I'm understanding the original post correctly). I actually really like the idea of the in-game storefront, given that it could easily be attached to the already-present dealership window.

As for what I would like to see patched:

SMOKE.

I swear, pictures and replays of drifting are consistently RUINED by the smoke pixels being really blocky around the cars.

This is 100% true. It was upsetting when I saw how blocky cars looked when you drove them in the rain or if there was smoke.

Don't fool yourselves, Sony will charge for more than extra cars. There will be a time where Sony will charge you for car parts also. Those parts need maintenance so they will charge for virtual oil changes, tire rotations, tune ups, etc (if you don't maintain your cars they will lose performance over time). On top of that they will charge a few cents to enter the "big races" (under the guise of higher server maintenance costs). Sony will NOT stop at cars. Don't worry though because Sony will add more and more costs over a long period of time so the customers will stay loyal and just keep saying "it's just a few more cents".

@wcctfrost If you're a fan of the grinding. I think Forza introduced a career mode concept that GT should've tried to do something with. I'm not a Forza fanboy by the way. In fact, I refrained from playing any Forza games strictly because I felt like GT was THAT game and was going to continue to be when GT5 came out.

It still feels like they're making a game with current-gen graphics with a last-gen mentality. As if video game development is still stuck in the 90s.

The grinding, the levels that you have to reach to purchase a car, the lack of customization, the premium vs standard debacle (I don't care if some of the standard ones look alright. There shouldn't be such a discrepancy in the first place. 400+ premium cars would've been fine).

It's like they ignored every other advancement in the genre in the ~6 years that they were making the game and I don't buy this GT5 was always supposed to be shipped in an incomplete state and then patched over the life of the game.

People eat up BS entirely too much nowadays.
