Over the course of the next month, a variety of college Bowl games will pit the year's noteworthy teams against each other. ESPN is adjusting its services to accommodate these matches and now offers an update to its Xbox Live portal.
The most substantial addition in this update is the College Bowl Showdown meta-game, where you'll predict the winners of each Bowl game and earn a score based on your accuracy. Scores can be compared with your friends list, and there's a new sorting option to view highlights in one continuous video, rather than flipping through miscellaneous segments. (Content is streamed based on the types of sports you've added under the "My Sports" tab.)
Microsoft is also a promotion contest alongside the update -- you can learn more on the Xbox website.

ESPN for Xbox is actually pretty cool. i didn't think i would use it much but i actually really like it. this update should be interesting.
speaking of the Bowl games, all you cranky Michigan State fans can screw off. if i hear one more word about how the Spartans should be in the Rose Bowl instead of the Wisconsin Badgers i am going to flip. the system is the same for everyone so shut it. its not like you would stand a chance against TCU anyway.

Yeah, ESPN definitely isn't some useless fluff like Twitter/Facebook. They have tons of games up there live, and almost every game is available on demand by late Saturday.
When UF played Appalachian State I would have had to pay for it on pay per view to see it if I were watching it on normal TV, but XBL ESPN had it for free. Then, that same night our crappy regional coverage gave us some boring ACC game instead of Oklahoma/Nebraska, but that was live on XBL as well so I could still watch it.
Pretty sweet.

Here's hoping that there will be a playoff system soon.
(Not that I'm bitter because my school got screwed out of a BCS bowl this year or anything...)

@BananaBoat When a 4 loss, unranked UConn gets to go to a BCS bowl, you know the system is messed up.

@SilverFireshot - My school lost one game a couple of years ago (while ranked number one, with an undefeated record) in the final week of the season, and was denied a BCS game, while a team we had beaten two week prior (and that had a worse record) got the game instead.
It's not about who deserves it so much as it is about who they think will be the most profitable. It's got to change.

@Vcize - I'll admit that my memory might be a little bit skewed by college related excess, but my school is Missouri. The details of what went down are all here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2007_Missouri_Tigers_football_team) Basically, we were ranked number one in both polls after beating a highly ranked Kansas in the second to last week of the season, but then we lost the Big 12 championship game, and lost out on the National Championship game. Instead of giving us one of the other BCS bowls, they elected to give us the Cotton bowl instead, even though we had been number one until a week prior.
It was a rough time to be a college football fan.

@BananaBoat - I forgot to add the punchline: Kansas got a BCS bowl game, even though we had beat them in direct competition only a few weeks prior.
I'm pretty sure everyone in Missouri is still pissed.

Your memory is a bit hazy, as Mizzou was indeed ranked #1 headed into the Big 12 championship game but was not undefeated as you claimed. After the Big 12 championship they then had 2 losses, one of which was an utter blowout, and Kansas got the BCS bid over them because they had only 1 close loss. Yeah, it was to Missouri, but who cares? Texas A&M beat Oklahoma this year, does that mean they should get the BCS game over them?
I understand your point about it not always being about who deserves it, but rather who would make them the most money, but this seems like a weird example of it. You guys were passed over for Kansas, not Michigan or Penn St or Alabama or some historical franchise with a huge fanbase. Kansas was certainly not a big draw.
A good example of that would be the Outback bowl this year, which jokingly picked Florida vs. Penn St which is a good traditional matchup, while Mississippi St ended up in the Gator Bowl despite having two fewer losses than Florida while playing a much tougher schedule.

Microsoft should have only charged the extra 10 dollors to the people who wanted espn, I don't see why I have to pay for something I won't be using at all.

@Almar072 Lol you pay $60 for your yearly subs? Thanks for subsidizing everyone else who pays less than $40. You are my Christmas miracle.

It seems like as an added bonus they got rid of going to a blank screen when the commercial break hits. They show internal ads right now.
I have my picks in, but I will probably do badly. It would be cool if they did something like this for the NCAA tournament.

I have Direct TV and I have Time Warner as my ISP provider, ESPN on Xbox Live is useless to me. I want my $10 extra a month back.

dump Time Warner dude. they are flat out crooks. i had service with them for 2 months and they have billed me for about 5. switched to AT&T U-verse for TV and internet and i am way happier. fair pricing and better service than Time Warner. and i get access to ESPN3 to boot.

@leobebes - Google seems to think Verizon's Fios is available around your area code, so you might try their availability checker if you haven't already.
I wouldn't be too jealous of U-Verse. I got it a month or so ago, and I'm only mildly impressed. You can only record 2 HD shows (unless you are on the magical, mythical 4 HD profile that almost no one has) at once, and due to the DVR starting and stopping recordings early/late, it is very difficult to make sure that everything gets recorded properly. The internet speed is great though (23/3 advertised, and I get every bit of it. Beats the speed I was getting with Comcast for the price, but Comcast has more upgrade headroom, and higher packages for those willing to pay)
Who is charging you $10 a month by the way? Time Warner(or do you mean $10 a year added to Xbox Live costs)?

if you paid an extra 10 bucks then you are a fool, because you can get a 12 month gold for 48 bucks on amazon right now.

I tried to use this EPSN service but apparently it's blocked by my ISP.... TIME WARNER CABLE. I don't have other options at all where I am. Not even DSL.

Sorry guys I am at work and I don't have to to proof read. I meant the extra $10 a year from Xbox Live for the added Xbox functionality, I know its not much but still! So if anyone knows another ISP in my area that can give me 20mbps or more let me know. I will dump Time Warner in a heatbeat. They want me to pay for their minimum cable package just to get ESPN3 service, I ALREADY HAVE DIRECTV!

some one check and see if they can skip/ff thru commercials. last night the espn app wouldnt skip back to live if a commercial was running
not complaining much, the commercials were strictly for espn shows like sportscenter anyway. much better than a blank screen
if someone else could check a live show and Re ....
